Whenever I think about how poor my life is going I think about this. Do you think it’s true? How do people own homes and cars yet can’t cover 1k?

>> No.50245612

it's the bottom 56% of the population, most of which don't own houses and those that do are overleveraged to the max.

it's called debt
i swear, everybody has collective amnesia these days
majority of americans are running around with debt up to their eyeballs
a couple of crypto bull runs hasn't changed that
thats how you know this whole stupid system is unsustainable

I might have struggled with covering 1k as a college student, but I had 2k+ extra money immediately after my first paycheck from a real job.

Rent was 900 bucks in NYC because I didn't want to spend a shitload on just rent. The rest was just food and basic transport costs, which isn't -that- much.

Never had credit card debt that I didn't pay off immediately.

Normalfags can't even do that, I guess.

the thing to remember about the bottom 50% of americans is, they pay zero income tax, infact they typically get thousands back when they file for all kinds of bullshit deductions.
so even with this being the case, they're still barely getting by, and far worse off than someone around the top 60-80%, who pays quite a bit in income taxes
what i'm saying is, there's a pretty hard cutoff between lower-middle and upper-middle class

Could be worse. Rent is expensive where I am and we've lived together for a while. She used to be kind of a dyke but she had a glow up period and now I wanna bang her. I'm done living with strangers though so when we decide to part ways I'll just get my own place. Maybe a down payment on a house.

>> No.50246173

>people who can't cover 1k expense

That means no one loves them, and no-one taught them basic life skills.

I give money to people I know who have unexpected expenses, and I don't expect to be paid back. The phrase "I know you would do the same for me" is a pretty surefire way to get them to pay you back though, worked all but one time.

Most poorfags are just clueless about money, and can really benefit from being helped out a little. If you get them to listen, and just teach them basic personal finance skills, you can change the entire course of their lives. The whole "teach a man to fish" bullshit is true regarding finance.

The hardest part is finding out whether or not someone is worth saving. Many such cases.

>> No.50246189

>>50245867
if you ask someone with an average income and no savings where it goes, they'll give you a vague narrative answer that they believe is true, but raw data would reveal how clueless they are. most of them honestly don't know where the money goes.

a small percentage actually do know where the money goes, but that doesn't mean they make good decisions. i had a neighbor back in 2009, turned out he made 90k, so pretty good money for suburban/semi-rural ohio. anyways, he gets a new laptop, is completely clueless about files, and asks for my help bringing stuff over. there were files everywhere, so i run a full disk search for common extensions and turn up a bunch of budget.xls temp files in an excel directory. beyond all the common stuff (mortgage, car, food, etc.) there were church donations, kids allowances, 401k loan payback, consolidated credit card paybacks, kids athletic league fees and educational materials (homeschooled), etc. he actually didn't own a single thing, the house, cars, etc. all had high remaining balances. i honestly don't know how someone functions when they work full time and have zero savings to show for it.

>> No.50246260

>>50245588

why would you keep anything in savings account? even precovid it didnt make sense to lose 2% a year to inflation. i'm pretty sure there's a relationship between golden bullrun of last few years and people with low saving account balances.

I have two credit cards, one which collects 1.35% interest and I pay off all transactions immediately. I have about 8k cash and 4k in a mutual fund.

Well... guess $70 is basically nothing once your portfolio starts swinging in the tens of thousands every single day...

I am so far past this I can no longer relate. I find it kind of sad you know, but there have to be losers for this game to work. And there are ALOT of losers.

I hate the game so much, and I love it at the same time. Really pisses me off when the whales start fucking with us minnows/tunas, but I mean, what we gonna do? Not like there's a replacement system ready to go. Just keep rolling with the punches and carve my sliver of pie. I get a strange enjoyment out of understanding the rules of this game when so many people don't. Most people are too dumb to learn it, so not really worth trying to teach for the most part. It must be miserable being part of the 50% on the wrong end of wealth distribution.

You'd be surprised how unforgiving and toxic american families are (continentally speaking). Out of the house as soon as they are adults. A few of my friends shacked up together in this situation. The ones who didn't became thieves. Even one of the cutest men I ever saw tried robbing a place and was arrested. His dad is a cop too. A shame. Finances and money aren't taught to high schoolers or any student really but would it make a difference when we are in the midst of an economic downturn-- again?
