Transportation is a finance. You can deliver food from your local quick marts on bike.

Use an insulated backpack so you can absorb shocks with it, and also use it for your own grocery purchases.

Improves quality of life if you live in a bike friendly human sized area which will improve your emotional gains which will transfer to everything else. Most places aren't built like that though.

Buy a good bike. About $2k.
Lower than that is a dogshit money pit, and higher than that attracts niggers.

Yes. Buy a good one that will last you for years, instead of some walmart tier mongoose bullshit.

I've been riding a $100 road bike for 3 years now. Only needed to replace the break pads and an axle.

yeah but the sweet spot for new is 1200-1800 nowadays.

if you're lucky you can get a great aluminium or carbon bike sub 1000, but depending where you are it can be meh, and if you don't know what you're doing e.g. OP asking a basic question then new is better.

REI is good cause the prices are fair and 1 yr return policy, you can return it in a month or 3 if you never use it.

Fine your right bike size, make sure the handlebars and seat are at your waist and get aluminium, carbon or hybrid of both - don't get steal, avoid an e-bike as it's overpriced bullshit, get a nice edurance bike like something similar to a cannondale synapse or trek 2100.

but what the fuck do I know, I just cycle for fun and can do century rides back to back :)

Where do you live that you have to spend so much?
I would pay more than 500 euros for a new bike, and the used market here is pretty great. I’m capable of basic maintenance so I’m not afraid of not buying some le hi-each durable bullshit,

I do agree on e-bikes, they’re for lazy retards.

Idk what those guys are talking about. I got a marlin for $700 and it's pretty decent for a mtb. bikesdirect.com has some cheap ass road bikes (though the selection is a little weird, half of them have mechanical brakes or flat bars)

I spent 700 on an ebike kit so I can stop paying 100 a week to full up my denali
