$70-$90 is actually the sweet spot for oil. At that level it's competitive to renewables, no demand destruction, and E&Ps print $$$.

The play from here are in quality names with good assets and management teams that are doubling down on debt reduction/buybacks.

Oil majors are a joke. You really don't want downstream exposure not to mention majors piss away money.

Small cap/shitco gassy permian stuff is a scam. Anything not already owned by a big boy is going to be drilled out in 10-15 years.

- CNQ is the goat Canadian asset.

- FANG an absolute steal right now. Sleeping horse with hardly any dividend because management is just paying off all their debt.

- Midstream such as PAA/WES are going to go gangbusters if we get a red wave (more drilling == more midstream volume). In the meantime 9% dividend plus debt paydown.

All these will do very well through end of 2023.

Honestly that range is what I'm hoping for. I've been using $60-$65/bbl for "conservative" valuation numbers on the stocks I look at, though I don't really have any analysis to back up that number other than old floor of $40 x M2 expansion of 1.3x = new floor of $60. And yeah I don't want to own gas stations and random 3rd world oil projects so no XOM/CVX for me.

Overall, I just don't see the world needing less oil anytime soon. And if green memes ever become real I've got copper stocks too because we will need a shitload of conductive materials to build out charging stations, the power grid, etc. for those to actually work. Economic growth is dead for the next 3 years. Oil stocks are crashing because of the realization that it's literally unaffordable for the world economy to function at it's current levels. No effort is put into increasing production because climate alarmism has convinced the world that its a dead industry.
Other commodities are crashing because industrials can't afford to produce goods with energy so high. The bottleneck step always eats all the profit in a production chain. By the way, all of this crashing is only in USD terms, as the sole currency surviving right now due to aggressive hikes. In Euro terms oil is another 10% higher vs Jan levels than its USD value indicates. Japan is even worse. EM countries are all in hyperinflation, rioting in the streets.

None of this is bullish for tech. Less production = less products = less ads. Shutdowns = Less labor = less income to spend. Less of everything means growth is dead. What is a growth stock with no growth?
Tech floats on top of a smoothly running physical economy. That physical economy has just announced the coming tsunami. Why are you still swimming?

The great irony is that by hiking, the Fed is pushing a recession that will actually exacerbate the problems over the next 3-5 years. No one sane is investing in production right now. They're hoarding cash or chasing buybacks. There will only be a technical recession. We haven't seen the mass layoffs that accompany because there is no one to lay off. Companies will just reduce hiring for those jobs that they haven't been able to fill anyway since lockdowns ended. For months they went on and on about how they couldn't hire people.
