The whole point of crypto is to create a decentralized banking/currency system at least that was its foundation. If all the supposed to be decentralized blockchains are ran by a centralized entity means the centralized entity has power over the blockchains hosted on their services. If aws wanted to they can fuck up transactions making it take forever to be confirmed therefore unusable. That is a huge security risk and using centralized services as a decentralized platform is a huge contradiction to the foundation of those platforms.
With ICP, it offers a decentralized alternative for cloud hosting services. Yeah, as of now, you have to meet the requirements to run a node because we’re still at the foundation of the project. But once the base has a stable support in place then badlands will be released meaning anyone can become a node provider. Badlands provides an opportunity where I could set up a server in my house where I’d get paid for the amount of storage I can offer. Having this level decentralization means this internet would become nuke proof.
Right now, we do not have a decentralized internet and the internet we have is not cryptographically secure. We have cloud hosting entities that will take down websites for no reason other than they don’t like them (parlor for example). We have an internet that has become ridden with ads everywhere. ICP offers opportunities where donations can be made with ICP to the wallets finding the canisters hosting the site. Meaning the community can support the site rather than having to see ads all the time.
