My grandparents are age-pensions in their 80s and live in a property thats valued at $5 million that they bought for $16k 50 years ago. They require state assistance to exist but on paper are considered multi-millionaires.

Many of the 56 million millionaires are people like my grandparents, its mostly in illiquid assets, illiquid assets that the owners aren't willing or able to pull liquidity out of to invest elsewhere.

For starters my grandparents couldn't service the repayments if they took out $1 million out of their $5 million dollar property value, secondly even if they could, they're old fashion and would never do such a thing, no matter how smart money does shit. Most of them just aren't going to ever take any risk whatsoever and will stay house rich but cash poor forever.
