He "lost" a lot of money around that time because he lied about MSTR's earnings and the stock crashed when investors found out. This in conjunction with the general tech deflation that happened during that time absolutely crushed MSTR's stock.

It's not like he made a bad bet. While lying to shareholders in and of itself is retarded, I see no correlation to what happened to MSTR then and Michael Saylor's bet on Bitcoin.

He's not a bad investor, and he's actually a pretty sound businessman. Despite doing that shit back then he managed to salvage the company after it was absolutely fucking annihilated. Here we are, 22 years later and he gets hundreds of millions of dollars from investors and is building one of the world's largest Bitcoin fortunes.

And largely because he was smart enough to hold onto majority stake in his company through it all.

Who the fuck knows what was going on in his head when he lied about revenue, but it doesn't take away from the fact that he is actually a pretty sharp businessman and has no scary boogeyman investment track record which should make you believe he's a counter signal.
