Yes its just a way to encode a key in a way that is easy to write down without ambiguity. You also only need to write the first 4 characters, because there is no word in the list with the same first 4 characters.

You can encode it differently, but why? All the tools use seed phrases. And w/e you're worried about people finding your seed can be solved by using a passphrase which most wallets support already.

I've used these cheap ass punch tablets. They come in packs and you use a little pen-like tool to punch holes in a grid to mark the letters. Not as pretty but easy to do and they are cheap so you can get a few of them for backups or different seeds.

Alarm on your phone every hour. When it sounds you write it down and destroy paper. Repeat
After 1 day, you set the alarm once a day.
After a week, you delete the backup.
You gradually lower the alarms, but personally once a month for life its super safe and efficient.

thats not how it works. passphrase is simply locking whatever device your seed is stored on. if they have your seed, they have access to your funds
