I haven't really paid much attention to GRT over the last year but I'm watching Brandon Ramirez' research keynote from Graph Day and it's good shit so far.

Have they improved performance and reliability? I know a lot of projects use the free version and I remember it always lagging behind or going down completely. Also, with the free version going away, will all of these existing projects just stop working unless they pay up?

>> No.50046455

>>50046146
Performance and reliability are reportedly far better on mainnet, particularly because there's more redundancy. The delay in large-scale migration is largely due to the team making a number of adjustments to mainnet based on the feedback of early adopters. There's also configuration for what kind of indexing priorities customers want - cost, data freshness, economic security, ad what not. You should be able to get more details on the matter on discord.

Should be ok in the third world at 20b queries/day with 100k or more delegated to a particularly generous indexer, but you won't be living at an upscale apartment in a major city. The picture's assumptions about average query cost are also pretty optimistic.

20b/day is a 10x from the hosted service. A 100x would be better. A 1000x would be perfect.

Listening now. Its an interesting talk, and even has some functionality The Graph might benefit from, buuuuuut...
>total number of dapps powered is less than the number of subgraphs created daily in the graph protocol
>monolithic endpoint strategy a la covalent - but even covalent is moving away from that approach
>project is even less mature than subquery, its immediate dot-native competitor

Scaling all the functionality in a decentralized network is also going to be a difficult undertaking. There's a reason why Covalent is in development hell, and Subsquid's going to face similar hurdles with an even smaller war chest and less retail liquidity by virtue of building in the bear market.

The Graph has seemingly taken a more lean/incremental approach to things, but this allowed it to reach and dominate markets faster, secure necessary funding for the next several years, and reinforce and expand its value prop after doing so.

It's going to be a rocky uphill battle. I'd say you're holding extremely risky bags, but you are literally shilling a token that doesn't exist yet.

If query volume grew proportional to subgraphs being built, I'd say a 100x is all but guaranteed. But query volume has reportedly slowed down in the bear market, while teams building has not.

Either we're in for a slow climb, or everything going absolutely vertical in a few years. We'll have a better view of things early next year. Sorry for the lack of a better answer.

I got lucky with my timing when I bought my 3090 in March 2021, since I mined all year and got the ROI in about 9-10 months before the mining profits tanked. Now I have a money printer although it only prints like 1/5th the amount of USD as before. On the flipside I get 100+ GRT every few days because of how GRT is trading against ETH. So I basically have a way of passively collecting free GRTs, it's adding up a lot faster now. I think I get 750-1000 GRT per month depending on how the math fluctuates between my mining and delegation rewards.
