Its more the fault of permarenters driving demand for rental units than it is landlords providing rental supply. Renting for travel, school, or freedom to relocate is one thing, but the kind of people who just rent in the same town or city for years or decades on end are basically saying "please rape me harder landdaddy you know i'm good for it".
Either buy a house or relocate to somewhere you can. Dont play into speculative market dynamics and then cry when you get exactly what you asked for. And dont cry about that "all my family lives in this one city" bullshit either. If tradition matters, go multigenerational and buy a home together or all of you get out of the city. A "family" that is a loosely connected network of permarenters is doomed.
