Hey /biz/,

whats the best monero wallet?

Just use the official Monero GUI wallet, it's good enough.

https://getmonero.org/downloads/

If you don't want to wait a whole day (or more) for the blockchain to sync, use the wallet with a remote node (slightly less secure, but unless you're a terrorist you'll be fine).

Thanks. I was thinking about mining some too, because I always pay the same price for electricity. Can I use the official Monero GUI wallet for that?

Do hardware wallets take monero?

AFAIK there are no hardwarewallets for monero, just paperwallets

Yeah, there is actually an option to enable CPU mining directly from the wallet interface. However, the miner used by the wallet isn't really that efficient.

I don't mine any XMR, I've only played around with setting it up on my old laptop for shits and giggles. So, maybe another anon that actually mines could jump in and tell me if I'm retarded, but from what I gathered you'll want to use something like xmr-stak so you can CPU & GPU mine and it's much more efficient than the miner built into the wallet.

The github repo for xmr-stak is: https://github.com/fireice-uk/xmr-stak

Setup for Windows and Linux seems rather painless, if you're mining on OS X for some dumb fucking reason (like I setup) it's a bit of a pain in the ass but possible.

Yeah, what >>5000142 said.

The good news is at least Ledger is currently working on getting support added for the Nano S according to these reddit updates:

Most recent -
https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/7de2pj/ledger_hardware_wallet_monero_integration_some/

All the others collected in Trello - https://trello.com/c/wsK0myEm/52-monero-support

Trezor I don't think has officially said they are working on adding it, which is part of the reason I just ordered a Nano S to replace my Trezor.

In the future there will be any more convenient wallet to store our coins? Something like Electrum for BTC comes to my mind, or even MyEtherWallet.

I'm a noob to XMR, just got some today.

mymonero.com is good, just beware the typical risks of web wallets (phishing, keyloggers, etc)

There are actually more convenient ways today! Although, not as secure as setting up the official GUI wallet, you can use the site https://mymonero.com and setup a wallet there. This should be fine for most use cases, and I believe was created by one of the core Monero devs.

There is also a desktop app (and I think mobile app soon to follow) for the mymonero light client, and you can test it out today if you so desired.

https://github.com/mymonero/mymonero-app-js

The official wallet GUI is the recommended route, as the light client and wallet app are still being worked on. But, if you can't/don't want to download the entire blockchain or setup a remote node mymonero should be totally fine. I just wouldn't be using it to send XMR to buy anything super illegal as a just in case.

If youre into all-in-one wallets

Coinomi is supposedly releasing a monero wallet soon.

Yeah, the official wallet with the remote node settings works like a lite wallet.

It's also one of the most beautiful wallets out there
