We're not in the best of shapes right now, that's for sure, primarily due to our retarded energy policy. But that will probably shake itself out in a few years. Very long-term (think decades) we should be fine. We're well positioned to deal with the fallout of climate change, better than most other regions in the world. We love to bitch and moan, but it's on a high level. We're still well educated, productive and resourceful and that's not going away anytime soon, despite all the doomsaying. Others risk their lives to come here and that's only gonna increase. Yes, our politicians and governments are terrible, but so are everyone else's.
