I don't understand people like this
They're wasting their free time deleting shitposts and spam for nothing in return, while the higher ups get paid to watch them work
What kind of fucking insane psycho does that, do they get some sort of power trip from blocking some troll's account who has another hundred alts anyways?

I prefer reverse internships, where a desperate 24 year old who can’t find a job with their meme degree pays a company to work there to gain experience. That’s right, the intern pays the company. Bonus points if you refuse to give them a recommendation and make them sign a NDA at the end.

Moderating reddit is an interesting thing to study. It proves how much people value being special and having power.

I've been on the internet since the late 90s as an adult.
I assure you: most "moderators" are literal children.
Or at least most stop giving a fuck after 18-20yo.

it's why they are often so uptight; they have the delusion they do something important; nobody gives a fuck and nobody should give a fuck.

I'm a self made multimillionaire. I've never worked for free and never asked anyone to work for free. In fact we normally try to be generous with pay to interns to build goodwill in case we want to hire them full time. If anyone asks you to work for free tell them to stick their thumbs up their ass.

This is exactly why they do it. The power feeling, feeling of being a "mod" of a large subreddit with thousands of users and posts a day. Feels good for them. Some really love the power. Those are usually the ones who will ban almost anybody for small reasons. Gives them a high.

Short answer, no.
But if you consider it a some kind of service that helps the community, yes it's worth.
Short answer again, spend your time and knowledge to build Wikipedia it's worthy, the whole community benefits.
For Reddit, well... no. At least from my point of view, for s0yb0ys it might be a great service for their s0yb0ys community.

I was a moderator on a small sub related to a video game. The role was kinda thrust upon me as I was one of the most active people there (read: I shitposted there every day) and the current mod (there was only 1) was leaving.

It was a very interesting experience; The sub was connected to a group of other subs all related to the same game and a central sub which was the main one for that game. The moderators of all the subs had a discord group to which I got invited.

There I met and saw some of the most mentally retarded people I've ever seen. One of them, who was one of the head mods and lead a team of other mods, would post in this channel (I think it was called pwned or something like that) screenshots of him making snarky comments of posts and comments he deleted and people he banned and other mods would jerk him off.

There were about 200 or so people in that group and I was probably the sanest of them.

They wanted me to implement a sub-reddit ban sharing system, which would make any bans on their sub-reddits automatically apply to mine and vice-versa. I protested and they got all pissy about it and contacted admins to have me replaced. I ended up noping out of there a few weeks later and I was then banned from posting in all of their subs - deleted my account and haven't been back to there since.

Based. It's not really the same but I ended up as a janny on a small 8ch board back when that existed. Couple spergy users in particular that wanted me to ban random cunts they got into arguments with which was really annoying.

Pretty much did nothing except for banning actual illegal content (CP) + spam and just let people do whatever as long as it was vaguely related to the board topic. Ended up abandoning the board after a while and someone else took control of it - 8ch had this system in place where if the board owner hadn't logged in for ages it would come up for grabs and someone else could become the BO instead.

I can't imagine having to deal with reddit moderating, the powermods, cliques, censorship over stupid shit and all that would drive me insane.
