OP the Bible is a book of parables meant to impart wisdom. A lot of Christians take it 100% literally and a lot of people (myself included) tend to believe it’s a lot of mythical stories condensed over the ages to teach people to be decent. I still believe in a creator but for example I don’t take the old testament 100% literally like le epic atheists imply we do. I’m sure some of it happened, Jesus was definitely a person on this earth, whether he was actually the ordained son of god or just a prophet is hard to say. But I still respect the book and things it tries to teach, even if I can’t bring myself to believe all of it happened as written. Maybe this helps you a bit.

With the Gospels in particular is it really hard to believe that Christ did none of those things whatsoever and that his followers were the old guard of a cult of personality centered around Christ and that his apostles, either wittingly or not, lied about much of what he did and said

If you approach the word of God critically God knows your motive and won’t reveal anything to you because you do not have a zeal for the truth. The word of God judges you, you do not judge it. The fulfilled prophecies by the Lord Jesus Christ is proof that it was put together by the Almighty Creator.

And of course, by “the word of God” I mean the Authorized King James Bible (7th purification of God’s word - Psalm 12:6-7). Do not read any other Bible, especially if you’re English speaker.

Adding on to this, you have to remember the Bible was made by man, and man is imperfect. There was undoubtedly censored/removed parts of the original books, parts/meaning lost through translation over the years, things of that nature. We only have what the people that walked this earth all those years ago chose to preserve. And there is large speculation that there are more holy books/scriptures, I believe relating to the Dead Sea scrolls, locked up deep in the Vatican. I’m “Catholic” in that I was raised catholic, so take my word for it it would be very catholic of them to do that lmao.
