For all the barfrens out there on biz living the grind.

And to give advice to anyone starting out in what can be a really stupidly gatekept, but extremely rewarding industry.

You want to get a job in a high end place to not deal with the hell of dive bars that long. That will make you money and be cooler than saying "i work at o'shaunessy's cleaning up vomit at 3am" Learn a marketable skill, like mixology, its a fun hobby and something you can fall back on when travelling.

Do not become an alcoholic. This is the greatest advice i can give you, bartender, server or anything service, doesnt matter, have fun but keep a lid on it. Maintain a social life outside of the service industry, some people are burning death spirals that will drag you down with them.

Also to the guy who asked if it was a hard job... it can be, nobody talks about the stress of a line of 40 drink tickets coming out of a printer when you've only just started on one.

But you get better at it. You get faster, you can remember more, and eventually improvise. Best advice I ever got was only pick up the bottle you need once, (like pouring a vodka soda and a moscow mule at the same time dont pick up the vodka bottle twice)

And hey, you get to be a star for a while, a star for drunks, but still all eyes are on you for making that perfect mojito.

Also, memorize this shit, watch cocktail videos, buy a shaker at home, start buying and familarizing yourself with liqours, make drinks for friends and yourself until you don't suck, then bullshit your way into a bartending job.

Fuck anyone who says you have to barback for a year, thats just some shit people pull when they wanna gatekeep you out of a job and give you lower back problems.

If anything barback for a week, quit, then lie that you did it for a year.

Good luck barfrens, enjoy your extra money.
