>germany phasing out all nuclear power plants
>nobody actually realizes why they are doing it
I'll spill it I guess. Nuclear power plants have a lifespan of about 40 years on average. It takes a highly competent and highly skilled team of engineers to shut them down safely. Germany shutting down their nuclear power plants now is an implicit admission that the German elite do not believe they will have competent engineers in 40 years to shut them down. Rather than risk catastrophe in decades they are taking advantage of the remaining quality stock in the country today

Neither of these morons has even the remotest idea about what's going on: Germany has been trying to regain control of its power supply after disastrous privitization policies of the 1990s. Nuclear is not popular and is too expensive and centralized compared to smarter alternatives such as geothermal, natural gas, and hydro. Swedish multinational Vattenfall, who controls Germany's nuclear plants, tied up Germany in a multibillion dollar law suit for half a decade. They are now being kicked out of the country. I hope this helps /biz/ be less totally ignorant about what's going on

>Vattenfall Europe Nuclear Energy GmbH is a subsidiary of the Swedish power company Vattenfall that has majority and minority ownerships of three nuclear power plants around Hamburg in Germany. It is located in Überseering 12, 22297 Hamburg.[1]

>Brunsbüttel Nuclear Power Plant (66,7% Vattenfall Europe Nuclear Energy GmbH, 33,3% E.ON), taken out of service in 2007.
>Krümmel Nuclear Power Plant (50% Vattenfall Europe Nuclear Energy GmbH, 50% E.ON), reactor not in service since 4 July 2009.
>Brokdorf Nuclear Power Plant (20% Vattenfall Europe Nuclear Energy GmbH, 80% E.ON)

Swedes can’t even cobble together enough ownership for two plans you spout about them “controlling our plants”. And newsflash, every energy company was in legal battles with the government because that’s what happens when they tell you to shut down your operations. There were all sorts of disputes over shutdown costs, compensation, waste management, etc.
this is a really weird, just plain wrong hill to die on. The supposed swedish takeover is the least of our concern in the energy sector.

Fossil fuel damage is everywhere but it adds up to something big.

It comes down to a few aspects
>Nuclear power is expensive to set up
>Nuclear power requires smart people to not fuck up
>If a meltdown happens, it can be a big problem
>People are scared of it
>Need to get in early or you're spending more down the line

It's expensive because you need an extensive project to build and make the reactors, along with multiple safety regulations and systems that are all built for worst-case scenarios. Ideally, we never need this because it's always human error that causes the melt down or some event that has come down to just poor placement.
You need smart people too. Goes without saying. Operators also need to know that their job is important, which is something that depends on a lot of societal problems or just problems in general.
People are scared because of previous meltdowns. They might have a point if they're worried about the people operating them, but usually they focus around the idea of Nuclear power which isn't where you should focus at all when criticising it (multiple issues with it).
Last point is something that's been noticed economically, nuclear power would've been a slam dunk years ago. It's much like rolling out fibre across a country, it's cheaper to do it all at once in a bulk than focusing on one area, except the roll out period was even more generous and yet we still managed to do nothing with it. Now it's expensive to buy fuel and fuel is held by people with complicated diplomatic relationships that didn't exist 30-40 years ago.

The only other things you could say is that the waste it does produce is harmful (although I'd take it over everything else).
As to why it never took off? Lobbying and fear. Fear because of Chernobyl and other incidents, then Lobbying.

The problem with nuclear is it’s used to make nukes.
>inb4 that’s not true!
Ok, you know how when you mix gasoline and styrofoam to make napalm?
Imagine if napalm had the city destroying capabilities of an Atom bomb.
If this were the case Western countries would be really, really hesitant to help propagate gasoline usage throughout the world now wouldn’t they?
It’s basically this situation but with nuclear power.

Countries that have invested in nuclear but don’t have weapons, like Japan for example, are nearly universally recognized as capable of going nuclear in a month tops.
Because you already have the gasoline plant ready to go, so making the napalm is ez pz.
It’s literally that stupid.

It isn’t so much oil fud, or hippie fud, as glowies making sure that domestic development is as sandbagged as possible.
State controlled development is fine btw, because breeder reactors are literally how they have to make the materials for bombs.
A big reason why Germany is so sandbagged on nuclear, despite their engineering pedigree, is because both Euro glowies and Anglo glowies having a gentleman’s agreement to not let Hans get his hands on nukes.
A lot of Euro environmentalist organizations glow in the dark, because it’s all tied back to the original greenpeace movement, which also interfered with nuclear development.
>Inb4 meds.
Trust me, if there’s one thing glowies are “whatever it takes” on it’s nuclear stuff.
They will do whatever it takes to keep that tech’s proliferation as sandbagged as possible.
If humanity restarted nuke tech research in earnest we could have bombs that reshape continents.
Most research was mothballed when people were still using paper and chalkboard.

Germany has had access to fissile material for fucking years and building a centrifuge is trivial for them, besides the hard part in a nuclear program isn't to make uranium 235 or plutonium, it's to deliver the payload without it getting destroyed.

Last year nuclear was 6%, after shutting down the remaining reactors except for the last 3, we are at 2.5% nuclear energy in Germany this year.

This is totally irrelevant, oil and gas are relevant - and coal.

The storage problem is already solved, but our societies are jewed beyond belief and lack imagination.
The only reason nuclear plants aren't mainstream is jewish financial calculations because the investment is large.
Please ignore all the billions we create ad will to promote homosex in Ukraine and bail out banks though.

Some pyramids are already standing more than 4000 years. Therefore it is possible to create structures that last several hunderd years.
At this point we have either rid ourselves of the jewish plague and are advanced enough to get rid of the waste or keep storing it safely.
In the event that the world is filled with jewish controlled shit colored nigger cattle the nuclear waste is the least of our problems.

the tsunami wouldn’t have knocked out the power plant if the backup generators hadn’t been put on the ground level. it’s almost like it was a planned fail to make normies hate nuclear.
