Wow, really? Ok. Guess school is in session. I'll start at square one since I don't know what you know
GSR, or Gold Silver Ratio, is simply the short hand way of saying how much gold your silver can buy.
When GSR is high, like now at 84-1 it will take 84 ozs of silver to buy 1 oz of gold. When the GSR is low like say, 20-1 that means it will only take 20 ozs of silver to buy 1 oz of gold.
Got that? Good, moving on.
The first thing you got to do is fix your thinking. Stop thinking about everything in terms of fiat. Think about it in terms of gold. I.E. how much gold would X buy. The second you do that things start making much more sense in the world and you'll notice that gold has, for the most part, been able to buy the same amount of shit during all recorded history. How much gold it took to buy a cow 1000 years ago is almost exactly how much gold it takes to buy a cow now.
Now that you have fixed your thinking. Consider the gar again. When you do you realize silver is the only thing that gold can't really peg down. It's the only commodity that not only decouples from gold, it does it with predictable regularity when not specifically regulated.
You can prove this to yourself because the GSR is the longest tracked ratio in human history. Ever since we started collecting this two shiny rocks we have tracked how much gold silver would by.
Any time you have a predictable swing in value between to easily tradable commodities you have an opportunity for arbitrage.
By tracking the GSR you get a reliable way to grow your stack without burning fiat AND you know which of the shinies you should by.

This is why you track GSR. It grows your stack, let's you know what to buy far better than tracking fiat price ever could and fixes your financial thinking.

Unless it's pickup, you're going to have to ship it. Somebody is going to pay that. If you charge for shipping, buyers will want a lower price for the pennies. If you pay shipping, that mass will quickly eat what's left.

Going to melt it yourself? You kind of have to - a Commercial company won't do it for you. It's illegal, and they have better things to do than risk their business and freedom for the sake of pandering to a little boy's dreams. The bars you create will return the most profit. But you need to buy or make the furnace, fuel, molds, handling equipment, and have the time and space to work with the stuff.

It's a curious hobby, but to get serious about it is hard work for low yield and high risk. I just don't believe you're serious about doing this for real, at least after a first go at it. But I suspect you'll end up with buckets of pennies that will sit in the garage for the rest of your life.

Something nobody ever says is: low prices of bitcoin will boost exports of bitcoin denominated assets. This is similar to how a country's exports can be boosted by having a weak currency. China intentionally kept their currency weak to boost exports.

What Is obvious is that the exchange rate of a currency doesn't matter if nobody uses it for anything. Nobody actually uses bitcoin to buy stuff and sell stuff.

Why do even educated people keep their savings denominated in a country that nobody actually needs or uses? It's like keeping your savings in Turkish Lira -- Turkey doesn't export anything so nobody needs their money and thus their currency is worthless.

Something just occurred to me with the GSR, it only takes into account spot and not the premiums being stacked on right now, and what's available to me (or what I want to get). We know the spot price is manipulated, and the increasing premiums is more reflective of the real price of PMs. So shouldn't be be using numbers of what we can actually get PM at for a sort of real GSR?

I just looked at the cheapest place I can get Gold Maples (in CAD) $2513 to their Silver Maple $37.56, that a GSR of 66.9. Other place with cheapest sovereign silver I can find, Silver Britannia $37.35 to Gold Britannia $2562, GRS of 68.6; their Gold Maples to Silver Maples GRS 66.7. The cheapest Gold to Silver I can get/find Gold Maple (above) $2513, Silver Britannia (bulk discount) $36.70, GSR of 68.5.

My point is GSR spot is telling us 84.8 right now, but for what I can get/find with all costs added in, it's more like ~67 to 68 GSR for me; shouldn't that be more accurate of what I should use for my decision making as that's what I can actually get?

First yes, you have to take premiums into account. Second stop buying shit with high premiums if you are playing GSR.
You want highly recognizable silver rounds that are mass produced like buffalos so you pay a small premium, and when selling gold do it yourself on eBay so you get the premium. I mean just how much gold are you trying to move? For most people it's less than 10 oz. That easy to sell in 1 coin batches. Just put your price slightly under the norm and it will move.
For silver I buy and sell at the dealer. Yeah I take a hot but for volume it's worth not dealing with the hassle.
Also stop buying high premium gold. Get rand's. Lowest price over spot, highly recognizable so super quick to sell etc.
Stop trying to get the fancy stuff.
You want boring old metal. Not collector items.

Gold Maples $2513 CAD I listed is the cheapest I can find, Golf Buffalo is like $2627 right now where I am. I actually buy Gold Britannias for more at $2546 (of course I was buying when everything lower priced, these are just the prices right now, and they stay relative to each other) because of it's security features which are obvious by looking at it.

As for the silver, in Canada there's capital gains exemption for sovereign coins only, so if silver spot goes up by as much as everyone is expecting, I'd get screwed by silver rounds. It just so happens Silver Britannias is the cheapest sovereign coin right now here, last year was the silver maples. Silver Krugs were more expensive than Silver Britannias. Gold Krugs are impure, in Canada anything that is not pure gets taxed like 12%.
