That sounds like literal hell. I make just over 100k working in government in Canada and the default is 4 weeks with 5 days of personal leave and any sick days are separate. They just monitor them and talk to you if you start to abuse them. After 5 years Im at 5 weeks + 5 personal days, essentially 6 weeks vacation a year.

Colorado requires employers to pay out vacation time. So my company gets around this by calling it PTO. So now we don't get it paid out.

I get 15 days of pto a year and that's it. Can't even take unpaid time off. If you do, they force you to use pto. If you have none, they deduct pto and you have to earn it back. Yet these fuckers think I'm gonna go back and sit in an office for the culture kek

In America you are expected to work roughly from 8am to 6pm for most jobs, including "start up" and "winding down" times. You can add an additional hour to total work time if you commute. However, American work culture has become notorious for people putting extra unpaid hours in just for "performance" since there is a culture of fear and intimidation in corporations, especially if you're a white male. If you're a diversity hire then you get some slack.
