I believe the idea is since they are farther back in your mouth they are harder to clean, meaning more prone to infection and decay. Also sometimes they come in sideways and threaten the alignment of your teeth.
However if they are coming in straight and you always make sure to clean them it isnt a problem, which is why I still have mine.

Thats literally always true for every tooth thats "in the back". It's actually because the modern diet introduced grains en mass sometime about 10k years ago. Grains are softer than tough roots and meats meaning that our jaws and jaw muscles dont properly develop in childhood. (also they invented "baby food" which wanst a thing).
This is the real reason behind the Mewing fad. It doesnt just make you look more attractive, it allows for your teeth to come in and your nasal airway to become unblocked leading to better sleep.
