I don't actually hate dlauer at all, he just gives really convenient answers at inopportune times to questions that could seriously have a different answer. Calling what happened a glitch with the shares being bought and sold in the millions per is highly suspect and as someone that worked in the financial sector of tech he should know better than anyone all of that shit is rigorously stress-tested and QA'ed to make sure it does what it's supposed to do. I think he's mostly on the right side of things but the fact he's worked with citadel in the past and the lengths they and their investors are clearly willing to go to to keep this from happening makes me wary of him. I think that would apply to a lot of people.

So I don't *think* anyone knows (and correct me if I'm wrong), but the theory I saw is that it's described as a "share dividend" because it's not a traditional split.
In a normal split, every original share would just be rerecorded as X times as many shares. There wouldn't be an active process, it's done automatically and doesn't affect shorts. Again, correct me if I'm wrong. In this case, Hyperblu would be right that the split doesn't make a difference except in that it might encourage buying (which according to him only matters if done at the right time).

But as a dividend, it means that the value of the shares isn't being rerecorded. It's more akin to a stock dilution except holders aren't affected negatively since they're given the additional shares for free. This would matter for the shorts because only the registered owner of the share would get the dividend. So rehypothecated shares would only result in a single dividend regardless of the number of times they've been rehypothecated. Brokers would therefore scramble to buy the shares needed to cover the dividends, or recall shares from the shorts.
Depending on how many fake shares are out there, this could easily kickstart the moass. If the theory is correct but I know nothing about finance so this might just be gibberish

The AMC Entertainment Chart: AMC has been consolidating on the daily chart since reaching its all-time high of $72.62 on June 2. The consolidation has been needed for price discovery and has allowed the stock to form support and resistance levels.

Over the past 17 trading days, AMC's stock has tightened into a triangle and, if the pattern is recognized, AMC's stock could break up or down from it on Monday as it meets the triangle's apex. Further sideways consolidation would not be bad for the stock if the pattern is not recognized and traders can watch for it to set up another pattern over the coming days.

I’ll be honest, I invested in AMC after FOMO from GME. I have been putting a few hundred each month since GME peaked into AMC. This is money I would use on eating out and alcohol. Since I started buying AMC my health has improved (most likely because I’m not eating garbage fast food and drinking anymore) and I still have no clue when this will pop. All I know is I like the discount buys and my diamond hands are here for the long run. I haven’t lost anything and won’t lose anything. I’m rolling dice based off wrinkled brain DD. Why we hold is far greater than a simple meme, there are company fundamentals and certain investment attributes that make these plays genius.

Don’t let MSM or the SEC rock you. You aren’t holding because some dude says he will stick a banana in his butt (well that may be 1 of the reasons), but you are holding because the investment attributes (SI, Utilization, CTB, Shares on loan, etc.) and company fundamentals (Cash on hand, rising trends in revenue, improvements in scalability and diversification, consumer behavior, etc.) are uniquely special and bullish.
