start with boxing / some kind of non meme striking discipline. once you’re competent here, you’ll be well capable of beating the shit out of 90% of the population.

after striking you should learn how to grapple:
if you’re a smaller dude - BJJ.
if you’re a big dude that can maul - wrestling.

trained bjj for almost 3 years and was a really great experience. then i got injured and moved out of town. still miss those days. nothing like gym bros you can cuddle with before you choke them out. unironically best sport i ever practiced. fuck lifting, you still get in shape and actually learn to defend yourself while doing so.

I've seen lot of wrestlers go from white belt to purple belt in record time but those same wrestlers were still getting tapped left and right by experienced white belts in the beginning.

Depends on how much you value your brain
Boxing is good and more useful in street fights and the least meme striking but you're going to take headshots. You're going to get a little bit of brain damage, that's just how it is
BJJ isn't exactly gentle but it's not getting knocked in the head, and is more effective at 1v1. Look back at the old Ultimate Fighter tourneys which were basically all-style, no-holds barred slugfests

>>49463785
I've wrestled and done BJJ, BJJ kicks the shit out of wrestling
Wrestlers think they're getting somewhere when I'm on my back only to pass out eating my balls when I leg triangle choke them

imo, if op’s just worried about self defense, not an MMA career. would argue boxing/wrestling are the best options. both can be learned fairly quickly if op’s serious/dedicated at training. op should be well capable of handling a street fight with these 2 disciplines.

Find a real mma gym that teaches and incorporates both along with knife fighting and firearms training. Bjj only retards are shook when you knee them in the fucking face when they go for a takedown, boxing only retards are shook when you swipe their legs under and stomp their face, and both are shook when you show them how absolutely useless their "techniques" are when facing a knife. Knife only fags are surprised when you drop to the ground and fend them off with your legs while filling their face with sim rounds. Gun only retards that dont train close quarter combatives are shook when they get stomped before they can even draw or when they end up facing their own barrel.

>tldr- find a legit mma gym that trains real scenario-based fighting and combatives as a whole instead of just disciplines and techniques

BJJ is faggy as fuck. Maybe in my teens I would have found the novelty interesting, but now in my mid 20s the prospect of rolling around on the ground with a man fucking repulses me. Boxing is really fun but it gives you brain damage. Go for boxing but take it easy on the sparring and don't compete.

Anyone who knows anything about jiu jitsu knows that wrestling and jiu jitsu are basically merging into submission grappling. Nowadays, in no-gi at least, everyone knows you get a huge advantage if you can wrestle, so everyone is learning to wrestle and integrate wrestling with jiu jitsu (i.e. submission grappling).

Boxing is fine, but it's not as interesting or fun, and getting punched in the head (even in sparring) is extremely bad for your health. Grappling is way better for your general fitness, bone health etc. It may not be so good for your joints or ligaments if you train poorly, but in general it works so many muscles in all sorts of interesting and natural ways, so you build real natural strength, not just the ability to punch good and bob and weave.

Krav maga for self defence. Kick boxing is super fun to learn though.

I know the basic 4 techniques of BJJ which are you will ever need: rear naked choke, guillotine choke, triangle choke, and armbar. These all take like a few weeks to learn and are basically 80% of the real life utility of BJJ. These all can be learned pretty easily and you're not some fighting mastermind for knowing how to use them. Boxing meanwhile takes at least 6 months (if you're very talented) until you actually start to really understand the dynamics of throwing a punch. Its simply the superior sport. Enjoy your cauliflower ear.

this. whats the point? just lift, get aesthetic, dont get into fights. but if you really need to train for muh self-defense then guns are a lot more practical, otherwise dont fight!
