i hate apple products as much as the next guy but this is fucking ridiculous. very cheap budget items could get their price increased significantly even if they don't target users who need mobility. even more importantly, what if someone comes up with a better format than USB-C? what if someone invents a new wireless (or at least plug-less) form of lightning fast data transfer and charging? they need to first lobby EU MEPs before they can sell their product in europe?

The market appears to be moving towards wireless charging, but if it did, the companies would likely come together and present it to the EU commission along with it's benefits. The law isn't meant to shackle everyone to USB C, just to a common standard.
