I have access to daily closing data, everyone does. I just think it's important to like, consider the current market conditions / context when looking at the history.
Like when doing the historical averages, apply an EMA, or separate it into upside/downside like Sortino ratio does, or factor the cycle/CPI/growth/interest rate against a data point. More complicated but I think it would group trends together more effectively.
