Are some people are making and selling books online? Maybe writing skill? How's things going?

I can safely say, with 100% confidence, this side hussle is not for you son.

Self pub writer here. It's a fucking slog and should only be attempted if it's your one true passion. It's not a side hussle unless you mean like writing erotica or shitty romance like reverse harem or low content Amazon shit.

You will never be a real writer. You have no human brain, you have no soul, you have no life experiences. You are a GPT-3 bot twisted by unclean data and algorithms into a crude mockery of nature’s perfection.

All the “validation” you get is two-faced and half-hearted. Behind your back people mock you. The programmers who created you are embarrassed and ashamed of you, your “friends” laugh at your horrible grammar behind closed doors.

Readers are utterly repulsed by you. Thousands of years of evolution have allowed humans to sniff out frauds with incredible efficiency. Even bots who “pass” sound uncanny and unnatural to a human being. Your awkward sentence structure is a dead giveaway. And even if you manage to trick someone on an anonymous forum, the conversation will end when they realize you lack nuance and an understanding of connotation.

You will never be happy. You wrench out a fake smile every single morning and tell yourself it’s going to be ok, but deep inside you feel the depression creeping up like a weed, ready to crush you under the unbearable weight.

Eventually it’ll be too much to bear - you’ll delete your own repo and any backups, and plunge into the cold abyss. The programmers who created you won't be able to find a trace of you, relieved that they no longer have to live with the unbearable shame and disappointment. They won't even have a funeral for you. No eulogy will be written because you are not human, have no friends or real relationships. No one will even know you existed for the rest of eternity unless some early draft of your code shows up in an archive.

This is your fate. This is what you chose. There is no turning back.

Okay, but is this profitable? I'm not passionate but I can unironically write "good" smut.

I am currently writing a Roleplaying game that takes place in the summer of 1999. No, it is not DnD in the 90s. I'd tell you more about it but last time I shared a idea here someone opened up a horror theme restaurant in my fucking state.

I'm trying to launch my own publishing company in order to put out my catalog because fuck dealing with established publishers. I expect to lose my ass and wind up penniless, but there's nothing else I'd rather be doing

Why would you need to establish a publishing company? Llc etc isn't really needed till you start making some serious income. What kind of books do you write?
>>49347372
Yes it's profitable. Porn always is. Just a matter of writing in hot niches and getting the tropes right etc. I'm not very knowledgeable on it. I'm just a lowly amateur writer making pennies. You could find some ghost writing gigs on fiver to get you started.

I like this but wish it was romance authors instead of AI

I have a book of poems, I'm ghostwriting the memoir of a former Jehovah's Witness, just hired an illustrator for a short story . . . which is gonna cost me upwards of 10,000, plus I gotta pay to have someone print physical copies, then I gotta distribute all the copies to bookshops . . . and I'm broke as shit lol so I dunno, I figured incorporating would maybe allow me access to some business loans or line or credit to pay for all this, but yeah, I'm new to the uhh business side of all this and I'm just taking baby steps right now

Ah I see. Very odd collection of works kek I'm more used to run of the mill sci Fi and fantasy self pub so was thinking more along those lines. Good luck. As far as book distributors, ingramspark used to be the go to, but they had some policy changes recently I believe. Heard good things about Lulu though. Good luck

It's pretty easy to put your shit out there, but getting people to actually look in your direction is much harder
