what is the advantage? I don't see it as a good thing

Look, either the main supply is mined, either there is a tiny but infinite trail of crumbs to continue to pay for transactions fees (Monero) or users have to pay them out of pocket each time (Bitcoin).

If you want a functional currency, having to set aside X amount each time to pay for miner fees sucks. Better that most of them are paid from the crumbs the system continues to put emit, no?

>> No.49312731

>>49312603
A. To keep miners interested
B. To solve the bitcoin problem of people losing bitcoins and the supply slowly deminishing over time
Monero is supposed to be a functional coin, not a get rich quick scheme.

idk man Wikipedia just told me

its not the infinite supply that's a problem
its the "infinitely" expanding blocksize paired with a privacy technology that fully requires disincentivizing spam to maintain privacy

>> No.49312886

>>49312603
what's more retarded is not having an infinite supply. What the fuck do you think is going to happen to BTC when there's nothing left to mine?

>> No.49312889

>>49312603
Many reasons, but another one I didn't see mentioned is that from a macroeconomical standpoint, a completely deflationary currency isn't good because it's a counter to investments outside the actual currency itself (namely, people focus more on speculation rather than creating initiatives in the economy).
>>49312788
Compromised in what way? That miners can't filter out small transactions (which doesn't matter anyway for the network) or that it requires the network to get stronger over time to deal with larger blocks ? What exactly are you hinting at here? Because the protocol is secure from a privacy standpoint.

1. The defacto privacy coin
2. "Infinite" supply makes it so miners can get their share of payout for upholding network (tail emissions)
3. youre gay

>> No.49313014

Monero is to bitcoin what litecoin was supposed to be: experimental bitcoin. Nothing about monero cannot later be integrated into bitcoin. Monero is for the advancement of cryptocurrency, bitcoin is to adapt slowly.

>> No.49313133

BECAUSE Bitcoin will be dead in 2140 if it doesn't change to POS and Monero can theoretically live forever thanks to it tokenomics.

the infinite supply is there so three letter agents can track you better

>> No.49313197

because time is infinite
you are finite, and moneroes inflation rate is asymptotic

unfortunately everyone alive today will almost certainly conflate inflation with exponential growth

>> No.49313207

>>49312603
Because ascent tail emissions there would be nothing keeping miners involved securing the network in just a few weeks. Transactions wouldn't cover miner's costs - and even if they did, any prolonged contraction in transactions would send the network into a death spiral as miners don't want to mine because there aren't enough transactions, and no one wants to transact because there is no security.

The inflation as a % of supply decreases over time. It's such a small amount you should disregard it. Lower inflation than BTC for the next 15 years or so.

>> No.49316096

>>49312737
The yearly inflation rate approaches zero over the and there will be less Monero than Bitcoin until 2040. It's meant to keep a mining network and prevent the retarded Bitcoin fee market we have now.

there’s not an obvious advantage at all. if there was every other alt would switch from capped supply to infinite. honestly, if i wanted infinite supply, would just use dollars. paper dollars are also way more private than any goofy altcoin
