Short Answer - kinda - essentially going to college or uni is a vehicle to propel your future career. It really depends on what you study, how you study and what you do besides studying in the mean time . Sure STEM is high paying but other industries are increasingly looking for people in other sorta-useful degree fields such as social sciences. I graduated in Pol Sci with alot of side activities and hobbies and I make 80k fresh out of Uni. If youre still insistent on college, go study in europe for a fraction of the cost.

diploma mills are a scam for retards. An education can be rewarding provided you get a degree in something that is useful and provides employable skills. It is important to make as many connections as possible. Also take some extra classes in art, film, history, etc to you are more well rounded and not a sperg in the workplace. You must learn to read, write and speak very well in addition to learning your core. All that and if your costs are not too expensive, you can get a scholarship, or someone else to pay for it, it is definitely worth it, not not a requirement to be successful.

Only if you don’t go the CC -> 4 yr state university route. Worked during college, had around 6k in student debt when I graduated. Doesn’t make you smart or educated by any means and you’ll never use anything you’ve learnt. However, employers want them, so if you’re looking to be a wagie it’s not a scam.

Colleges aren't scams. For most people, they are overpriced products that don't deliver value.
College is essentially sold as an experience (friends, party, sex), or an insurance against the future promising financial stability with relative upside.
Except the value of insurance is clearly stated in contract and will actually payout if the stated conditions are met.
The same cannot be said for college, which banks on hope or naivety.
When looking at it from a game theory perspective, competition is a zero sum game, and what was once an edge loses value the more people have it.
The uncertainty of college paying off is higher than ever as more and more grads gets pumped out each year.
The value of having a degree is decreasing, and will continue to do so, while the price of buying that degree is higher than ever.
Most people are smart enough to realize this, but still spends $50,000+ because they need to satisfy their parents and friends by showing them that piece of paper.
It is your responsibility to decide whether paying 5-6 figures or going into significant debt for that piece of paper is worth it.

If you decide it is not, then no problem.
