I'm already mining on 3 RX 470's but wondering about the viability of upgrading to even more in the future.

Will GPU mining "go away" for any good reason at any point in the near future?

I'm doing Monero now but could easily just switch to other coins.

It won't go away as long as it's a profitable niche. Coins will always be created for gpu mining.

most people pay too much for their rigs and power to be profitable longterm

mom and pop shops can still make money if they have the right setup, deals and choose the right coins. I have a friend in venezuela doing it, he has free power, for example.

Yeah they don't pay for power at his business. It's not all roses though, he has to show activity at his business or else the government will take it. That and living in Venezuela. Good thing is he is a german citizen so he can leave, but, it's hard to get assets out - hence bitcoin.

Power might be free but networks blow hard. How can he even mine with 200ms ping? I call BS

>>4921455
I don't know. He's in downtown caracas so maybe his ping time is better? I don't know much about mining, but I've seen plenty of photos of his setup which keeps growing - so whatever he has going its working on some level.

Apparently the slow ping doesn't matter:
