No...I am not the OP, but I worked in IT for a Fortune 100 investment bank in New York, and making that kind of money is not abnormal. Look at the 10-K's of these banks, they have a ton of money. If paying a programmer $200k can make them $400k, why wouldn't they do it?

Own property and a healthy share portfolio, work nights at about 20 hours a week. If I need more cash, I just build a website, flip US land or "consult" small business.

Consulting gets me a 2% profit share paid monthly, returned as either services from the business or as cash payouts.

You work out how to make a business an extra 10% profit per year! without additional capex or exorbitant on goings and they give that shit up.

I spend my petrol time reading the finance and business pages from that news papers, or moping the floor while rocking out to classic rock.

Why did I come here? Never before has a thread made me feel quite so inadequate. How do people near my age have good paying jobs and be sitting on piles of cash? Rich parents and nepotism? Don't you need to incur expenses for education and spend time working for free (internships) before seeing real money?

I'm confident in the degree that I'm building, and I'm trying to support it with additional experience, but there seems to be a huge grey area between graduation and employment. Is this evidence that entry level jobs exist for well-rounded college graduates? Or am I jumping to conclusions?
