No...I am not the OP, but I worked in IT for a Fortune 100 investment bank in New York, and making that kind of money is not abnormal. Look at the 10-K's of these banks, they have a ton of money. If paying a programmer $200k can make them $400k, why wouldn't they do it?

I used to administer machines which had billions of dollars worth of transactions a day going over them.

Live low value, enjoy your job, fuck the rest.

Own property and a healthy share portfolio, work nights at about 20 hours a week. If I need more cash, I just build a website, flip US land or "consult" small business.

Consulting gets me a 2% profit share paid monthly, returned as either services from the business or as cash payouts.

You work out how to make a business an extra 10% profit per year! without additional capex or exorbitant on goings and they give that shit up.

I spend my petrol time reading the finance and business pages from that news papers, or moping the floor while rocking out to classic rock.

Life is good.

Why did I come here? Never before has a thread made me feel quite so inadequate. How do people near my age have good paying jobs and be sitting on piles of cash? Rich parents and nepotism? Don't you need to incur expenses for education and spend time working for free (internships) before seeing real money?

I'm confident in the degree that I'm building, and I'm trying to support it with additional experience, but there seems to be a huge grey area between graduation and employment. Is this evidence that entry level jobs exist for well-rounded college graduates? Or am I jumping to conclusions?

are you a retard? it has nothing to do with making yourself feel better - no matter how much "attention" you get online at the end of the day you're still a poorfag.

it's all about making other people insignificant and worthless. plenty of newfags who take these threads seriously and are retarded enough to fall for the bait.

If you switch from one company to another company(in the same role), the new company tends to give you an offer that's higher than your current pay. This provides more motivation for you to quit your current job and join the new company because they want you.

This only works if you're switching on your own terms(not fired or laid off from your old job), and it generally works only in white collar or management positions... you won't much of a pay increase going from a cashier at McDonalds to a cashier at KFC

Let me tell you something that happened to me last night. I was at a bar playing pool with a buddy, and this guy we we playing with asked what I did. I told him I was a web designer and mentioned AngularJS (a software library/framework) in particular.

He said "Oh shit, I'm looking for an angular developer. I'll pay you $70k/yr starting plus benefits. We golf on fridays."

I'm not even a Comp Sci major/minor - I just recently graduated with a BS in business, but I taught myself to code. People are trying to find developers like crazy right now.

Well one part of this is provably bullshit.

If you have a BSC Hons, that requires an absolute minimum of 3 years (2 institutions let you do them in 2 years) - and also tells us that you did not attend oxbridge.

so to finish university if you started attending at 18, you would have little to no work experience, save for internships in summer holidays at the age of 22. Any business offering that kind of money would also not give it to people who could be given 30k to do the same job.

i am drowning in piss, choking on shit. i can't get a job answering telephones. what's great is the department of labor requires you to create a "work search record" to prove that you're actually applying to jobs. i have applied to over 500 jobs from over 400 distinct employers.
in brief, i am wayyyy overqualified, and am thus viewed as a flight risk to any and all employers.
when i go to the department of labor office (as required to continue unemployment benefits), my resume produces several facial expressions, but mostly it's "yo wtf is this cracka doin here if he so educated & shit? damn it say here he got all kinds of professional experience, why cant he get a job? what's wrong with this boy??"
i smile and ask for work, they say NAW DAWG you cant work these jobs becuz you too... too... you did too much stuff ya knowutimsayin????!
