10 minutes wow, you can read like 2 books/year.

I'll tell you what: read while commuting instead of listening to music (applies if using public transportation), to me it's 2 hours per day back and forth, read a book per week on average.

Other daily tips include:
Read the news once per day, only the ones on frontpage.
Lurk on 4chan only once per day.
Do some work out every second day.
Read instead of watching TV or movies.
Actually cut the TV.
Watch/read something in a foreign language if you know one so you maintain your level.
Talk to a stranger.
Try something new.
Write the shit down you feel like worth mentioning, read it later, feel motivated.

Sit in half or full lotus, depending on your flexibility.

Close your eyes and breath in through your nose and out through your mouth. Keep this going for about ten-fifteen minutes. Clear your mind. Don't worry if you can't help having thoughts, but don't dwell on them. Just let them pass like a cloud passing a mountaintop without affecting your mental state of peace.

After that, you're done. You'll be more ready for productive work again.

How to NOT read news:

>Visiting FOX/ABC or any other TV station site
>Going to Reddit and reading the comments
>Going to any aggregator, opening everything in a new tab and reading only the first paragraph
>Being tempted to read about celebrities and other bullshit
>Reading shitty internet copy-paste factories like Huffington Post

What you should do is find a good publication (e.g. The Economist) or a reputable website, find a few interesting article or an area which you work in, and read them from start to finish. Reading summaries is fine for being up-to-date, but it's better to read a few articles in full than the cliffnotes of everything.

>> No.484473

OP here:

When I said read for at least 10 minutes I meant read a book of interest - not some online article or some analytics.

tl;dr: Shogun and Sci-fi/fantasy classics from 1800s

I don't know what you're literature interests are but my favorite book is "Shogun" by James Clavell. He's a multiple New York Times bestseller. The other books in that series are fantastic, but that one was my favorite.

Other than that, I like stuff from the 1800s: The Importance of being Earnest, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, [Bram Stoker's] Dracula, The Picture of Dorian Gray, etc...

Initially it was my goal to read all the books featured in The Leauge of Extraordinary Gentleman. I never expected them to be so good. It's amazing to see the original idea of some characters, compared to the modern day interpretation of the book.

For instance, did you know that the only reason Dracula burst into ashes when he died was because of how old his body should have been. Young vampires that were killed in that book just turned into normal corpses because their body wouldn't have had time to decompose.

this will sound edgy but its true
a sikh that worked in a warehouse with taught me that, after i asked him how is he 65 and still stronger and active than most of the other people around:
he called it chakra (just chakra, he may have said something else but sometimes i had trouble understanding him because accent).
sit comfortably, if you're comoftable in lotus, do it, if you're comfortable in a chair, do it there
close your eyes, make sure its a quiet place.
when you close your eyes you will see darkness, and something that he called "dense", "second", "other" darkness, that is in the middle.
try focusing on that
it will be difficult and you may not always see it
nonetheless try doing this for ~15minutes.
after that you will feel refreshed and ready to go
i've seen the second darkness on my first try but then couldn't see it for a week, he recommended excercising which i did, and it helped me finding it again
just something to share

Reading is good, maybe a bit more than 10 mins. I try and give myself half an hour minimum but I end up getting right into the book.

Journal.

Write down things you did, how you felt, things that you're thinking. it's very good for a variety of reasons really; get thoughts out of your mind so you can sleep better, self-reflection on how you acted, and can be a tool to look back and find the exact days you were being a huge faggot.

Out of all the habits that I try and pick up and do ( including exercise) - Journaling is the easiest and most long-standing that I've managed to pick up first go.

get a good journaling book and put it on your bedside table. not in it, on it.
