Anyone other Americans ever need to get a second job to afford healthcare costs - and if so, what are your stories? I'll start:

>be me, 26m, accountant making 73k
>have high-deductible plan, so literally every medical expense is out of pocket
>have $0/yr of medical expenses
>have deviated septum (see pic)
>have 5 days unused vacation
>want to get deviated septum fixed, ask doctor how much septum will cost to fix, doctor says $7200
>am cheap, do not want to pay $7200 for nose job
>want to pay $0 for nose job
>hatch plan
>tell my accounting buddies that I'm going on vacation
>apply for menial labor job at local temp agency, get hired at $10/hr
>sign up for expensive zero-deductible health insurance
>start work on 1st day of month, same day health coverage kicks in
>schedule nose job for 2nd day of month, give nose doctor health coverage info from menial labor job
>call in sick on 2nd day of month, get nose job
>call in on 3rd day of month, quit menial job, receive $80 paycheck (minus taxes and healthcare premiums) for a whole day's work

I've been doing this sort of thing for almost five years now - had six different surgeries via six different temp agencies. Next year, I'm going to be using a three-day job at Starbucks to pay for my wife's boob job. Isn't American healthcare wonderful?

You'll get fucked in the ass eventually when your primary insurance company finds out you've got secondary coverage. They 'coordinate coverage' - split costs between overlapping insurers. If you fail to notify them of secondary coverage they can nullify their coverage and deny claims.

Read the fine print beancounter.

Not really, because in the US insurance usually has trouble operating over state lines. So it is feasible to do it.
