The current wallet is safer than any exchange. Just keep in mind that it can bug out sometimes and display the wrong balance when you sign in, and you'll have to reconnect a couple of times or try different nodes to see your balance again

Not showing your balance is not a biggie, it's more akin to a GUI bug. The balance will still be stored in THE TANGLE, and you can confirm it at thetangle.org.

Ok now fud or fomo now. I hold IOTA, it has some issues fine but big potential (but so does other cryptos). The main problem I have is that most volume is on bitFinex, and seriously many shady things going on there.
