This I've seen MEW load up different token numbers before and had to enter in my public address again. Sometimes it'll act like I received my tokens then when I go back to the page the old number is still there. So try it again. Or go to etherscan and check there.

As in going to MEW and creating a new wallet on a computer that was online at the time or since? If so, it's entirely possible you got hacked or malware grabbed your key in between the time you created your homemade code (which isn't a good idea because humans are terrible at randomness) and the time you deleted the actual private key.

The safe way is to either generate the private key on an offline computer that will never be online again or use a hardware wallet.

This is an exchange guys - Etherdelta. It didn't steal your funds, the guy who stole your funds forwarded them through the exchange for additional anonymity. It happened to me as well. The flow chart is the following:

1. Takes your funds from your account and sends them to a temporary intermediary account
2. Sends the funds from the intermediary to the Etherdelta smart contract (the exchange on this webpage)
3. Withdraws them later to another account
4. And from here either this last account is the final one that he/she uses, or he/she keeps sending them around and around until he/she is satisfied with his/her safety.

Be careful in the future, NEVER share your private key. Also, preferably, don't copy it to your clipboard or anywhere because there are scripts that can retrieve info from your clipboard (javascript). Write it out by hand, keep it on a USB or paper and try not to store it on your computer if you are connected to the internet. Good luck.

You create a wallet on the offline PC, it generates an address and a private key for you from the pool of 5000 quadrillion possible addresses.
Then you go on an exchange on your other PC where you buy your shit and then you send everything to the address you had generated on the offline PC even though the computer that generated it was never connected. That is cold storage.

No, ledger isn't going to make ED safer. Ledger makes MEW very safe though.

If you want to use ED, do NOT import any wallet into it. This is how people get screwed. Just use the default wallet they give you, make your trades, then transfer all funds to your MEW which your Ledger controls. Once they are in there, they are safe.

If you wan't to use ED again, just tell it to make you a fresh wallet, send your ETH, make your trades, then send it to your Ledger controlled MEW.

It's not even possible to import a ledger wallet into delta anyway since for delta to function it needs to know your private key.
BUT if you use the same wallet everytime, andsomeone runs a script or a smartcontract on your wallet to instantly send all funds that arrive on it to his wallet, then you've got a problem. For that reason it is better to create a new wallet everytime. It's only a click anyway.

What's inside the wallet you imported? Does it contain coins that you don't plan on trading at the moment? If so, it's a dumb idea to import it into ED when you could just send the coins you want to trade to your ED wallet for a few cents fee. What happens when you close ED and accidentally click on a link a few days later that steals your ED cookies which contain the private key to the wallet you imported?

If you are importing a wallet that ONLY contains the tokens you are about to trade, and you are going to ABANDON that wallet when you are done trading, then importing is fine.

I don't think you should simply blame Etherdelta or Mew until you figure how exactly your tokens were stolen from you. Otherwise you may not truly know if you're still compromised or not.
