>work for a eu based company
>they're freaking out and laying people off, apparently because they keep losing importers due to the euro rising so much

Can someone explain this to me? Isn't the euro rising a good thing for them?

>the state of European education

No, it makes things comparatively more expensive for outsiders. International trade is sensitive to exchange rates FFS. This is the one the first things you learn in high school economics

The US and the Eurozone both want their currency to be lower. The US has been successful in.this so far where as the EU have been very unsuccessful and in the coming years it'll definitely start to show

You have $1000 Australian Dollars. You want to buy a product. Exporters in the US and Italy are selling the same exact product at $100 US and 100 EUR respectively. USD/AUD exchange rate is 1.200 and EUR/AUD is 1.500. If you bought from US it would cost you $120 Australian dollars if you bought from Italy it would cost you $150 AUD. Buying from US would be cheaper due to exchange rates.

Because then that just fucks them since they still don't make as much profit, meaning more layoffs anyway to make up for it.
