currently 100 pages in, don't feel like I've learnt a lot.

Does it get better?

Not "When Genius Failed." Terribly written book and didn't give any insight beyond pointless anecdotes and wikipedia tier information.

Are you sure you are actually reading and thinking about it instead of just looking at the text?

Both of Michael Lewis' Wall Street related novels are decent reading, even if not directly applicable to present day.

Nassim Nicolas Taleb's books had a huge influence on me a while back and made me interested in trading as well as provided me with a lot of knowledge but recently I've been thinking how he might have fooled me and may be full of shit, especially since following him on FB. Anyone agree?

After the first few pages where it explained the difference between thinking fast and slow it sort of got boring for me and I stopped after like 60 pages, but then I decided to reread it and actually there is a lot more to this book, so definately worth to finish it.

can you explain why you think he might be full of shit? Just curious, I'm not really well acquainted with his stuff.

I noticed that his idea of 'antifragile' switched at random between the related but distinct concepts of "has more to gain than to lose" and "gets stronger when you hit it". "I hope something interesting happens to me" is not *quite* "I hope something awful happens to me", even though the latter implies the former. He presents his mashup as a wonderful secret thing that modern society has brainwashed us into ignoring, while the ACTUAL reason it's so hard to get a grip on is that it's a kludging-together of at least two ideas.

I think my favourite thing about NNT is that he has so many opinions on so many things that he's bound to be definitively wrong on at least a few. (Depression exists, and is distinct from melancholy! Charities can be worthwhile even if some people who work for them draw a salary! Other things I can't remember right now!)

This is one of the worst books I've ever read. He's praising himself throughout to whole book. Almost puked.
