Who's invested in etherium here?

Check out the videos the guy looks autistic as fuck you know it's going to be good.

Currently 1 bitcoin buys you 1/30,000 of the ether

>> No.453263

I went 0.25 BTC in at the first IPO price. I don't expect miracles but 5 fold return would be nice.

If you define "shitcoin" as a crypto that offers nothing new then no. If you think all cryptos are shitcoins then yes.

I'm guessing he is referring to the millions of USD made by the IPO. They may cut and run, that is why I only put a little in.

>Ethereum’s decision to premine Ether and distribute it via an IPO has been controversial within the cryptocurrency community. Disgruntled community members have discussed forking the Ethereum source code once it is released on GitHub and releasing a non-premined “alt-etherea” to compete with the official project. Vitalik Buterin acknowledged this possibility in an official Ethereum blog post.

>By conducting an IPO, Ethereum will have a monetary advantage over its anti-premine competition. Combined with Ethereum’s research and development advantage over the competition, it is unlikely they will face a serious challenge from Ethereum forks.

Though prospective Ether purchasers should not worry about the threat of alt-etherea, Ethereum faces significant competition from current and future next-generation cryptocurrency platforms such as Nxt, Counterparty, and Mastercoin. Nevertheless, the community has already begun pouring money into the Ether presale. Within two hours of the sale’s launch, buyers had purchased nearly 2.5 million units of Ether.

Not sure if I should buy...

I invested 0, the people running it are a bunch of useless goofballs. Especially that sad Russian fuck.
In case you haven't read their white paper they are saying that they are gonna cash all the bitcoin to $ because of its volatility. That's probably the sudden break in price.

Etherium might go big due having a legit, trusted team behind it. The concept itself is not bad, a type of "pay to play" system running on their own cryptocurrency. Invested 0.2 BTC for the hell of it.

OP here, I just went in hard with a whole bitcoin.
The fact Peter Thiel is vaguely involved swayed me.

The devs only get 8.5% of the genesis block. And another 8.5% for the "ether foundation" the other 80~% goes to the prebookers like us.
Looks like this has upside potential when it hits the markets winter2014. Maybe x10 profits out of this but it's a gamble. I don't want my grandchildren to hate me for not buying ether on the IPO

Thiel has a uniformed butler and a $500,000 McLaren supercar. Thiel is also a chess master and intensely competitive. He has been known to sweep the chessmen off the table in a fury when losing. And he does not apologise for this hyper-competitveness, saying: "Show me a good loser and I'll show you a loser."

Of course he does. He is a billionaire. If you had read the article I posted however you would see his Fellowships Award recipients are mostly fail. I wonder if he even has the time to personally authenticate them or if he delegates that responsibility to someone else.
