4212782 No.4212782 [Reply] [Original]

I have been urgently trying to buy about $10,000CAD of crypto for the past week.

I have a buy limit of only 200$ on coinbase after just getting verified, which will allegedly gets raised once I buy $401 (so basically 3 days) but will only raise to $1000.

I have made a Quadriga account and have been Equifax instant verified, but my ID verification has been sitting for over a week. I just sent support an email.

WTF why cant I find anyone to take my money fast enough.

WHERE DO CANADIANS BUY/TRADE CRYPTO AT? AND HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE YOU GUYS. Fuck me, this has been demoralizing trying to get my money into crypto.

Also do any canadians trade on GDAX to take advantage of 0% make orders?

I'm in the same boat as you, having trouble throwing money at bitcoins. Mostly because the big 5 banks are colluding against bitcoins right now.

Best way right now is to use Interac transfer. Not Interac Email transfer. Quadriga and Coinsquare can be funded this way.

Best to use credit unions right now. Tangerine is free, online set up in minutes, and get verified. Set up an account right now for a double referral bonus too.

Use this code: 51256798S1

You get $50 free after depositing $100. My wife and I set up 2 accounts with the referal - e-mail transfered our own money to those account, and got $100 free. Then interac funded the exchanges that allow it. (Quad and Coinsquare).

If you got a spouse/friend to help out, the best way we've found is, 2 Coinbase accounts, for 2 seperate limits with credit cards, + the 2 credit union accounts to fund with Interac Transfer. Plus Quadriga.

Tips here please :)

Please, any insight/experience from other leafs is appreciated. I just find it so difficult to find unanimously agreed upon information for Canadians who wish to trade cryptos.
My main questions:
I) Best way to get my money into the market (i.e. CAD -> BTC or ETH).
II) Then how to get some money into some of the Altcoins since Quad. or coinbase don't support any of the altcoins. So which secondary account should I transfer my crypto in so that I can then trade the alts from my BTC/ETH? I am not sure if you do this and will be able to help but I thought I'd ask.
III) Last question. Is it true that us canadians do not ONLY need to report our initial purchase and final sell for our taxes, but we need to report every crypto trade we make to pay cap gains tax on? If so I feel like this upcoming tax filing would be a fookin nightmare of complexity.

1) i promise ive given you the best info right now for your situation. You jsut have to be a bit patient to jump thru the hoops - and get compatible accounts (IE: credit union or RBC)

2) coinsquare lets you play with the alts

3) You can play ignorant right now if CRA comes after you. CRA has classified it as both "get rich quick" scheme, and gambling. Neither of those are taxable (in BC anyway). So, if you aren't on a radar )IE: gains in the millions) - they aren't going to put forth cost and effort to make a fight in court that you should pay taxes on it.

Well potentially if you are talking about trading low amounts, you may not need to provide ID.
But it seems any avenue of trading to allow a decent amount deposit ($10,000 or more) now absolutely requires at a minimum one piece of Government ID.

if you change between USD/BTC in exchanges that don't require ID verification there is no record of your identity doing any trades. if you don't withdraw to fiat.

if you changed fiat into BTC, record it so you can deduct it from capital gains. but if you mined BTC like i did, there is no paper trail to follow and my trades were done on exchanges that required no ID verification.

in the end it's just less hassle for me to declare the whole sum as cap gains and be done with it.

>>4213338
So when you say you converted back to CAD, did you withdrawl it from your Quad account, or leave the funds in there to purchase the ETH in the future?

Also, see >>4213199 regarding the legality of the tax situation here in Canada. Initially I thought it was ill defined in the law until I found the above links. Now I am worried claiming ignorance will not be a valid option since it appears rather concise. Please correct me if I am wrong.

ALSO for anyone using quadriga to trade, it seems if you leave the funds in their account, because they are not real CAD's then having to report cap gains on any crypto to CAD transaction does not apply because you do not actually receive the CAD funds until the money is fully withdrawal'd from the account.
