Bittrex has a trading api, but a shitty caching feature for all api requests, things like your open orders included. Sometimes takes like half a minute for it to refresh, other times tbeir cache has sync issues and randomly sends you two different versions of the requested data.

Mintpals trading api is in private beta, which in practice means its access exclusive to mintpals devs friends.

Cryptsy api takes too long to process requests, and sometimes fails to process them at all.

Not sure about poloniex, i think they have a trading api, but generally shit trading volume, so i never tested it.

MIN is gaining steam finally. It's been having some serious lows/lulls due to the roadmap being laid out a ways back, and there being a long period of "inactivity" due to the checkpoints in said roadmap being spaced so far apart.

Personally I still hold all of my MIN, and bought some more when it dipped really low, around ~1500 sat. However, devs haven't skipped a beat and recently more SC2 pros/big names have started hopping on board. IMO don't sell now unless you are in serious need your BTC back. There really seems to be very few reasons why it is expected to go lower after all is laid out.

Start by mining Doge, not because it will make you money but because it has many guides on how to mine.
Once you have Scrypt (the cryptographic algorithm used by Doge and Litecoin) figured out start playing with others like x11, x13, scrypt-n ect.

Once you know how mining works then it's time to look for a coin worth mining, this is the hardest part by far. I'm currently mining JudgeCoin, it has very little going for it but the dev seems keen to keep it going awhile so I can get lots now in the hope he does something grand in the future.

>> No.417893

I'm not shilling any coin at all, though; I'm just pointing out the fact that I am invested in MIN because of the roadmap/projects to come that the devs have laid out, and the fact that it is indeed picking up steam. I'm not asking anyone to "pls guys buy moar and it'll go up I swear" - You can go to the website and read up about the upcoming features yourself. Some people were asking about MIN so I jumped in to contribute, that's all. Could it crash? Of course it could. However personally I don't think that it will, and that it has a very high chance of taking off in a big way for the reasons I mentioned before.

That said, in the time between my first post today and this one, MIN went from 1.9k to 2.29k. I will look further into RBY, though. From what you've said about it I can definitely see why something like that could generate solid returns. Thank you for the info, and I'll do some of my own research from here on out.

If anyone else is wondering, I'm also invested in VRC and VOOT. VOOT seems to be getting some health back today, but truth be told I am a bit scared about the negative chatter regarding its price as of late. Could do more harm in the short-term, but the devs seem solid enough for me to keep holding at least for the time being.

My rig is 2 x 280x's and I tend to stick to X11, X13, X15 & Scrypt-N coins as ASICs can't mine them well right now.

I wouldn't recommend building a multi-card rig as all the profit has been milked out of mining in the last few months. If you have an AMD card you can mine with your gaming rig but stay away from Scrypt with any gaming GPU as it beats them to dead and will cause artefacts.

If 2 BTC is all the BTC you have, I'd highly advise you not trading with all of it. The risk is pretty high no matter where you put it, but the lowest risk out of all cryptos out there is just keeping your BTC as BTC.

I mean, you can obviously do whatever you want; it's your money. But personally, if I had a total BTC supply of 2.0 BTC, I'd put 0.1, 0.2 maximum onto an exchange and work towards turning that 0.1 into 1.0 because taking a -70% loss on 0.1 BTC wouldn't sting at all, whereas I'd feel pretty dang upset if I took that big of a hit on 2.0 BTC. Especially if you're just getting into crypto trading (you did say you've been burned before though, so I'm assuming you specifically aren't completely new) there's no need to buy more than $5 worth of BTC to trade with on account of your first go at it most likely becoming a trial and error learning experience rather than riding the rainbow to hooker and blow castle.

And to answer your initial question:
>Where can I put it for moderate gains with minimal risk?

Many different people will tell you many different things, and chances are a lot of it will just be people shilling X or Y coin. I'll tell you this, though: I personally feel like MIN, VRC, VOOT, and XMR are all moderately-low risk investments and have much higher chances of going up in price than the vast majority of the other alts out there. VRC is probably the safest, IMO, seeing as how it has not been this low in price for a very long time, has a gigantic amount of press and PR behind it (seriously, read the devs talking about the dough they spend on parties and seminars and shit) and ATM's rolling out. It's really low right now due to the MintPal hacking and some shit-talk with its callsign on the Twitters, but I'd be insanely shocked if the inevitable bounceback doesn't result in a new all-time-high.

MIN is gaining steam due to the amount of betting tournaments rolling out using it, and the community is pretty balls-to-the-wall in their support of the coin. Very big chance of taking off like a rocket as soon as more SC2 players jump on board (some already have) and the dev team laid out a detailed development roadmap planning out the next couple months; thus there is almost zero mystery whatsoever regarding anyone backing down from it.

VOOT and XMR have consistently high volume and the anon features set them apart from most others. I'm personally invested in VOOT, but at the same time wish I had bought an equal amount of (if not more) XMR.

Sorry about being a bit long-winded but I hope that helps.

I'm currently holding LTC, and just bought more BTC to convert to LTC.

I am not going to fucking waste my youth in a cubicle, I'm going to be filthy rich when bitcoin absolutely needs an alternative.

First BTC absolutely must become widespread for this to happen. And, well, it is spreading pretty quickly.

Thoughts?

Bought into voot while I was noobing around and it was in the middle of a pump at 15k. Dump happened and I was bagholding. Contemplated selling but decided to read the entire bitcointalkthread. Saw it had good volume, the dev was active and the people in their community sounded excited, so opted to not panic sell. Many weeks later Voot finally entered a second pump cycle and I promptly sold my coins at 18k, not huge but still around 15% proffit so I'm pretty happy.

>why is bitcoin falling?

Predicted and very-expected mini bubble burst. It's bearish at most right now, and although it's dipping a bit, it will absolutely go back up before you know it.

The funny thing is, it was expected that it would bubble up to around 1,000-1,200 before the next plummet, which was expected to be extremely low; i.e. down to around ~350 USD. Personally I was hoping for this to be the case, as I had bought my BTC at 445, I was planning on stocking up on far more if and when it dipped to three hundo-ish. The fact that it didn't peak to the predicted numbers, however, most likely means that it will also not go as low as expected before the next upward trend begins. In other words, it wont fall as hard seeing as it wasn't dropped from as high as expected.

>I have no idea what to use ripple for except to buy low and sell high
>should i just get rid of it before it flops?
Yes. If you are in the black with the Ripple you're holding, best to just cash out with a profit right now, IMO.

If that was a plan that you implemented 1 year, it would most likely work with enough shilling effort.

However, with the insane amount of altcoins having used/still using that very methodology (or strikingly similar methodology), today it is unlikely that such a coin will last on any major exchange long enough to allow for such a profit to the creator.

For better or worse, the influx of scamcoins at this presently alarming rate is causing investor malice and regret while simultaneously instigating investor hesitance and profoundly larger amounts of market scrutiny and investigation.

Less than 20 mins later the dev bails and VOOT goes from 1400 to 400. I simply got ridicuously lucky and even though I made out with a quick profit I realize how fucked that plan could've become had I waited a few minutes to implement it.

>You still in MIN?

Oh yes, in fact just bought a few hundred more at ~1180.

>Seems like it's just going further and further down.

IMO it's just due to the lack of any major news/happenings/releases in the past week or so. People get bored easily in this game, and sell off everything if they so much as go 3 days without a profit - even if it means selling at a loss. MIN isn't a pump and dump, and the first major tournament is still a week away. I'm buying more and more and holding all I've got until after the tournament in the first week of August, at the very least. I may not even sell after that inevitable climb in price in the days/hours before the tournament goes live. All depends on how well the reception goes because if the betting platform goes off without a hitch (which all tests and minor tournaments have shown it absolutely will), that means many more (and many larger) games to come, and thus more and more widespread reasons to buy. Could I be wrong? Of course; but as of right now I see nothing but excellent developers and an insanely passionate community behind MIN, and that's why it's one of the very few that I'm heavily invested in.

>Of course; but as of right now I see nothing but excellent developers and an insanely passionate community behind MIN, and that's why it's one of the very few that I'm heavily invested in.

It could pull a VOOT though - delay release of new features, and then the devs announce that they're out of the game.

I've lost far more money than I've made in this whole thing. I'm starting to think about not even bothering with coins that target minority audiences, and just sticking to day trading with the big guns like CLOAK, XMR, VRC, etc...

>> No.425112

>>425106
>It could pull a VOOT though - delay release of new features, and then the devs announce that they're out of the game.

I don't see how that's at all possible, honestly. MIN has an entire dev team, and a separate spokesperson who writes statements approved by and directly from the devs - VOOT was a scenario where there was one person in charge of code as well as posting on the forums. That one person made a ridiculously stupid post and "announced" that the the coin was dead. The other devs hopped online to do damage control, but the damage was already done.

The programmers and public relations are separate entities with MIN, and MIN has already delivered everything they've promised. Take a look at their website and read up on the previous betting streams. Everything has taken a huge amount of time and dedication and everything has been presented as announced.

That is not to say that it's impossible for the entire team to jump ship, and the PR person to follow suit; but it does seem (judging by all evidence thus far) that it's immensely unlikely for anything of the sort to occur.

I'm sorry, but I can't honestly say that that makes any sense. If everything I previpous said about it were untrue, or even if some of it were untrue, I could definitely see your point. But with the dev-to-user feedback and compliance, the upcoming events in the near future, and the other events/features to come without a definitive date as of yet, all signs point to get some MIN for a big payoff. Especially at it's current price: It's so cheap it's not even like grabbing several hundred/thousand would be a gigantic risk in any way to anyone with a decent portfolio.

Basically, the honest devs are trying to invent a coin with an innovative feature. Over the past year and a half there were over 500 alts created, but only 3 real innovations:
1. Peercoin - energy efficiency
2. Blackcoin - proof of stake
3. Monero/Darkcoin - different attempts at anonymity.

The battle right now is for a "standard" anonymity solution, that will be present in every other coin from now on. The contenders (XMR/CLOAK/VRC/DARK/etc...) are fighting it out, and the market is deciding the winner. Picture quite related.
