How is that by definition a bad investment?

If you're thinking about money alone sure, but the return on your investment when buying a sportscar (protip: don't buy one if you can't afford it) is the fun of driving one.

If you're not a fan of driving, don't buy one. I have had 4 years of fun driving my infiniti G37 convertible during weekends, holidays and even on the track at times. Sure it wasn't cheap, especially not since I live in Europe, but imo it returned a lot of fun for the investment.

Me. I'll take all your money then when I get a decent job I won't share any of the profits. Then I'll go back to college and they'll pay for my masters so I can get paid even more. Will I extend the dividends to them this time around? Who knows, but they sure see nine of the profits

I bought mine for 33k with about 20.000km on it. It has 60k now and it's depreciated to around 25k if I check online auto sites in my country.

That's 3 years later fyi.

I never said that you should buy it brand new.

Actually it does since the fun times recharge my batteries, indirectly increasing my performance. I also want to save up for a new one which motivates me to work harder.

A car or house isn't an investment, it's a depreciating asset.

A valuable painting isn't an investment either. It's a speculation.

An investment has to actively EARN you something.

It's an investment.

An investment should be something that, if you had to hold onto it forever and never sell it, you'd still have an DEV > the purchase price from the cash flows. A bond is an investment, a dividend stock is an investment, a condo in NY you rent out is an investment, farmland is an investment, etc. Bitcoins, gold, art, speculative stock, houses in Florida you buy to flip- all these are speculation.

A house is only an investment if it's generating a cashflow- if you're renting or letting it out. If you bought a house to live in and enjoy, then it's not an investment, it's a consumption good.

Your bottle produces no income and your sole source of return is dependent on someone else paying yet a higher price for the bottle later. You merely speculated that someone will in the future.

At least you don't have to constantly pour money into it to keep it from losing value (depreciating) like a house or vehicle.

I agree with >>411206. In my opinion, investments produce cash flow: Dividend paying stocks, bonds, loans, rental income, non-owner occupied real estate, etc. Buying an asset you anticipate will increase in value is speculation; no matter how long or short the time frame.

>> No.411224

Investment
>An asset or item that is purchased with the hope that it will generate income or appreciate in the future. In an economic sense, an investment is the purchase of goods that are not consumed today but are used in the future to create wealth. In finance, an investment is a monetary asset purchased with the idea that the asset will provide income in the future or appreciate and be sold at a higher price.

House is an investment; BTC is an investment (a stupid one); real estate is an investment. Speculation refers to a certain type of investing. Speculative investments are riskier.

Just passing by this thread.

The 335i, especially the twin turbo, will curb stomp a G37. The 335i is arguably bmws best model currently and the only model until the new M3 comes out that stick to their heritage, excluding the twin turbo 135i and 1M which will both also curb stomp a G37.

A turbo 335i with a chip is a monster. A G37 is a frat boy car for asians living in orange county.

Thanks anon.
I've driven the 335i but not the G. I was hoping to hear some more favourable comparisons because I know all about the N54/55's habit of eating fuel pumps and the turbo explosions on the N54. I might just have to get one and buy a warranty.

>> No.411301

>>411280
Wow, that saddens me. I just googled it cause I hadn't heard of those problems. The fuel pump was recalled and fuel pump isn't a big deal anyway, but the turbo wastegate issue is a pretty serious problem. I'm a mechanic so I, personally, wouldn't even worry about it, but for a regular car owner that's a pretty serious liability. Looks like they extended it's warranty to 82k miles. Not sure how much the turbos they use are, but the labor cost would be quite high to replace one especially at a dealer.
