>new to /biz/, reading up on cryptos
>a good majority of cryptos can't be bought with USD, but require BTC to purchase them

What are the pros of this? What are the cons? What is the effect of BTC's value on these BTC-based cryptos, versus cryptos that can be purchased with USD?

I've lurked for a week, people tend to hype up the BTC-based tokens way more than USD based ones. Why is that? I would think that USD-based currency would be more reliable and have more potential, rather than something where you have to go USD --> BTC ---> Currency. That's a whole extra step, whereas USD-based is just USD --> Currency

>Yo dawg I heard you like bitcoin. Here's another coin you buy with bitcoin and convert back to bitcoin

Seems a bit silly. Also, to me that seems like a huge alarm going "DING DING DING! Invest in bitcoin since everyone has to buy bitcoin to buy all these BTC-based alts that are shilled."
