If your mining rig is open-air, has a good amount of cooling, and you have a PSU rated for 100v+ more than the GPU requires, it shouldn't damage the GPU at all.

If you're mining with a powerful GPU but it's inside a gaming laptop, however - keep a fire extinguisher nearby.

Wrote the batch and configuration file to exact OP's specifications, downloaded/synced the wallet along with all other software, and yet still "json_rpc_failed unable to connect" regardless of any tweaking to the ports, file paths, etc.

>If cpu mining wasn't working what GPU cards do you have?

I stripped an old motherboard and PSU out of an abandoned computer from work, and stripped another computer down to grab an i5 processor.

Basically slapped the CPU onto the old MOBO, slapped the PSU to the side of a milk crate and laid the MOBO onto the perforated bottom, all next to a big ol' fan. 3gb RAM and a cheap ass external HDD to boot from.

It's essentially the most bare-bones mining rig that a person could possibly build. However, the CPU is actually decent enough to make CPU mining worthwhile. /biz/coin seemed like a good go, but as I said - no bueno.

Any other ideas for up-and-coming coins and/or presently-traded coins that can be mined in Scrypt that I should point my CPU at for some modest returns?

With just a single CPU I doubt you will get modest returns on any scrypt coin. I guess it depends on what you think is modest. But I think you'd be wasting your time mining a scrypt coin with a CPU. I'm currently mining Bytecoin with 2 270x's, 1 laptop i7, 1 OC'd desktop i5 and get around 0.02btc a day on average recently. But the profitability has been constantly decreasing. So I did the math and my desktop i5 accounts for 16% of my hashrate and earnings. So 0.00320btc a day from just my desktop CPU. I'd say that's fairly modest. You could also look into the newer cryptonote coins. good luck

ASIC's aren't cars. When ASIC's are released the hashrate of the difficulty of the entire network increases, making it more difficult for everyone to get coins. Eventually, as new ASIC's are released, the old ones no longer get the same amount of coins. As time goes on, the old ASIC's don't even get enough coins to meet their power costs.

Old cars don't lose their MPG or their speed when new cars come out. ASIC's can.

In case anyone's wondering about whether or not to buy some MIN as of right now:

It held an ATH at nearly 150% of its current price before market entropy brought it to right around where it is as of my writing this post. However, it seems very unlikely to me that it will never break through its previous ATH due to several factors.

First off, the dev team seems to be taking a page from the LOL coin book (or, y'know, ripping off their ideas, but if it aint broke dont fix it) and will be implementing a Starcraft II paid duel system, along with integrating features to the wallet that allow MLG nerds/fanboys to bet on live Scarcraft championships. In other words, come professional SC2 tournies, MIN will be the easiest avenue for neckbeards globally to put their proverbial money where their mouth is and bet on professional gaming tournaments.
>(cont.)

>> No.400684

>>400681
>(cont.)

This could cause an insane influx of new Bittrex accounts and purchases by people who have literally zero interest in crypto trading, and will instead blast BTC all over MIN for the sole purpose of supporting hobbies and pasttimes alike.

Granted, this is just my opinion and in no way a sure-fire fact of what's going to happen. However, many people in the BTCtalk thread and twitters alike seem to have similar ideas about the future of MIN. If you read the posts, they don't seem at all like your typical Twitter/bagholder shill posts, but rather well-thought out anticipations.

So, all of that said, I'm personally switching my #1 spot for "biggest bag being currently held" to MIN. Just bought several thousand around the ~4k mark, and setting a decent % of it to be sold at ~5.5k (still lower than the ATH), and the rest to be sold closer to ~10k, seeing as that would be a fair and not too unrealistic upper threshold of the ceiling break, if and when the influx of SC2 grabbers flood on in.

It could very well go far over 10k, and it could very well go to ~7k-8k and stagnate before crashing. However, I honestly can't see any reason as to why it will not, in the very near future, go at the very least back up to ~6.5k given the latest dev hype and over all rumor mill about the potential alone.

Anyone else have any thoughts about this? Just figured I'd state my opinion and plans in case anyone else was wondering about buying in and/or wanted any info as to why people still buy into MIN.

Stay safe, friends!

>As it stands you are shilling a joke.

Honestly, friend, I don't even have a dog in this fight.

The fact of the matter is, whether you or the mass public sees value is any random altcoin or not, some people do. Perceived value still means that there are those willing to exchange legal tender for it.

Thus, trading said altcoins is a legitimate way to make money. I enjoy making money this way, and I just try to help other people here in these /biz/ threads do the same because it's much more fun to win when you play as a team and work together. The winnings are also better and more plentiful with more than 1 mind working together.

I'm not shilling any one or two coins in particular. I don't advise anyone to ever buy anything that I don't buy myself; in fact I even let people know about things that I do buy but also explain why it may not be a good risk:reward ratio at all and to save your money for something else more promising.

I just really like this board and the community, and there is money to be made in cryptos, regardless of whether or not something like Wankcoin or Nameyouraltofchoicecoin will ever actually serve a purpose other than making an investor some profits through an exchange.

It's also really fun to do as long as you're not betting the farm or anything dumb like that. That's all - I just like the people here and I do a lot of research and thus I'm happy to try and help where I can :/

Hey milkbro, no FUD intended here but I have add my thoughts and questions

how big do you think the volume would be in dollar terms in this kind of usage (best placed) per year after full adoption but just within MLG?

To me it seems like betting is not enough, that to really explode value a crypto would be better served by a game that was popular like starcraft but that had some kind of gear chase pay2win mechanic. Diablo 2 would have been perfect for this if you played it and remember the abundance of online sites selling items.

You would get top web sellers of digital items in that particular economy on board with the dream, ideally just one, the largest to corner the supply before pricing items and before the coin becomes widely known about. Then, they have a sustainable business model to become very rich as owners of their network. They also have huge pricing power by owning a high concentration of the network. All they'd need to do after quietly buying is start listing highly desirable stuff for below market value priced in their coin

They price their items at a huge discount to the buyer, if they were just buying the coin for a transaction, since they were never invested in the price and are only holding for a second and would do it to save money. They would list $100 items for $65 using the coin that they now have most of the network in

Customers would wonder how the site could have such a competitive deal but the site would have made 1000% on the sale of currency on the exchange. business would boom

This will happen eventually in some context. It's the dream for URO, although I haven't seen any proof that this vision exists for the coin and Urea import export is not as straightforward as digital item sales.

Anyway good luck with MIN, I don't like the supply structure or algo so I am staying clear (I also am not involved with MLG and never liked starcraft although I am a gamer) this might make me not see what you see.

Problem with this is that you can already bet on SC2 tournaments with Bitcoin. That and the fact that SC2 has been on the decline, getting replaced by ASSFAGGOT games.

>> No.400752

>>400746

I don't think you're off-base at all with most of what you said. However, I honestly do think that the betting alone would be more than enough for a significant boom in price; because keep in mind that the goals of MIN (according to the community therein) do not begin and end with MLG. Even without licensing support and/or royalty fees, underground sports betting sites could easily pop up left and right whom support the MIN infrastructure. For all we know, we could see an insane influx of purchases in MIN when the next MLB World Series or college basketball "March Madness" hits the radar - just to name a couple broad examples.

What you outlined as the "URO dream" makes total sense as well, however I personally feel like such a network of item salesmen is so far down the road that although it's very possible (if not very probable) of coming into being, it's too distant in time to really worry about when it comes to making a profit in the near-future.

anonymous sportsbook

such as directbet.eu which accepts betting in btc doge and ltc and is very extensive

honestly one thing I haven't seen yet that would be great for an alt is prediction markets or even just sports betting in the form of a futures market (like intrade.com was)

it beats the pants off of spread/moneyline traditional betting because you can profit before an event by closing your position if the odds changed favorably and it became worth more. this will also attract sportsbetting arbitrage potentially since it's laid out like a market with an orderbook.

the way bets work is for each event you buy shares that will be worth nothing if your bet loses and $1 if your bet wins. on the other side there is someone selling you that bet at a given price between 0 and 1$. So example say the bet is "buffalo bills win the superbowlXXX next yr" the odds at a sportsbook are like 80/1 longshot if the market was efficient a bet on your site would cost dollar equivalent of .0125 but sellers and buyers would make their own price that varies over time.

i felt the idea didnt take off as much as it could have w/intrade because as a us citizen you had to scan passports and stuff to wire money... i ultimately didnt and it was a good choice given they collapsed. crypto is faster though and the profit motive would be there for the site operator to run an honest business I feel, would potentially be a great coinsink and market on top of a market to keep investors using the coin to bet as a means of return not selling it and trading it

much like how BTC is now for many people (including me) yeah i have a basis that i watch but i need BTC to be involved in alt trading so its not like im gonna sell if anything ill buy a lot more when its low and sell if it goes up way too fast for no reason and rebuy

To believe that a coin with that many followers would just be left to die is insane. Not because "HURR WE BEST COMMUNITY LOOK AT OUR CHARITIES 1 DOGE = 1 DOGE" but because people with a lot of money can make even more money thanks to everyone who is selling like mad now. The whales slowly but steadily buy DOGE to commence the next pump and dump to get even more cash out of the coin and its followers. More people will buy in once it rises again thinking "thank god I got in this early TO THE MOON" and the whole process, will repeat itself. You can bet on that, it happened to almost all the other coins, even to coins that never had a chance to begin with. Where money can be made, it will be made. Someone always takes a fat profit out of them.

To be honest, Dogecoin a pretty shitty coin with no new ideas, but that never mattered. It is an unregulated market, a brokers wet dream. Especially since there are thousands of idiots in the game, so there is a high potential for insane profits. Stop thinking about what the next "good" coin will be because it never was about that.

>> No.401496

I browse the alternative cryptocurrencies and announcement bitcointalk subforums with a suicidal bored tied face. NOTHING BUT SHITCOINS. There isn't anything with potential anymore besides Monero. The anonymous fad is already done with Darkcoin and Monero, there isn't really anything new or worth the time anymore IMO, unless a random ass big bubble like AUR happens but thats just pure luck.

>> No.401503

Maybe the reason was that it's just another shitcoin with the anonimity gimmick? Monero is the only legit anonymous cryptocurrency as Darkcoin crashes.

There is heaps going on in crypto right now, while XMR seems to have won the anon wars the e-sports betting and camwhore wars are just kicking off.
LOL & MIN are fighting it out for e-sports betting while the camwhore coins are wide open with only TITcoin and WANKcoin making half-assed efforts.
The first good camwhore coin will be huge.

The difference is BTC is being considered something of value more and more, an altcoin can play on the psychology that it's "not real money" better. There is a very good reason casinos make you bet with chips instead of piling money on the table.

Monero is very similar to all the other Cryptonote coins though and doesn't fix the major issues. Cryptonote coins are pain in the arse to use as they are now and I've had a shit ton of issues with them. Err, i'm an aspie? Why the fuck are you so defensive? Lost some BTC on XMR or something? I'm certain Bitcoin did not have as many problems as Monero has had. The legit Monero team you speak of seems to have done very little other than cloning fixes and features from other cryptonote coins. Monero did have a legit launch and that is basically why so many people saw value in it. Other than that, its just another Bytecoin clone. Frankly I trust the Bytecoin dev team more with anonymity and development as they did develop the original fucking cryptocurrency. But I also don't give two shits about anonymity and don't see why its such a big deal. I think its pretty much a gimmick at this point used to pump coins.

URO is gonna soar especially when July 9 rolls around and Courtney orders her shipment. I suggest you all buy at least one coin, and if you really want to buy more, hit up true-asset on freenode IRC and ask your questions. He has convinced me not only through documentation and realistic explanations but also through his persistence and hard work. A common trait I've noticed in scamdevs is that they dump their own coins pretty fast as soon as they can get a good profit out. True-asset has had this opportunity numerous times since URO has gone up in price 20x in the last few weeks, but he understands if he makes this coin legit, he will bank much more profits. Just my two cents, even if you buy one coin you won't lose much/Gain .3-.6 btc.

honestly if the whole thing is legit, smart people in the import business because bank fees are pretty high when dealing with import financing and its a hassle getting a letter of credit.

crypto is far better on a transactional basis if the market can float the way they want it to (close peg to the price of urea)

but the way it stands you can't buy one ton, you have to buy in blocks of 12500 at 1ton=1uro because its shipped on a boat

it's one of those things that I can see how it would be successful but the time it would take to see if the people behind it will actually follow through and be honest and competent if someone wants delivery is too much.

the IRC #uro is pretty active, or was for the last few days havent checked much today.

not going to call it a fraud because it's a really cool idea and anything could happen but I don't own any at the moment. it's too volatile to not swing trade when i have tried to get in it so far.

Depends on what exactly you mean by moon, but essentially, no you are not too late at all.

Big big big rumors milling everywhere about it being added to MintPal on Wednesday. While the addition to MintPal may indeed cause a huge dump, the time between MintPal officially announcing VOOT being added and MintPal actually putting the VOOT market live will most definitely cause a 25%-50% pump in price as everyone scrambles to aquire as much as possible between the news being announced and the news being actually implemented.

Personally I have no plans on selling VOOT until it is at the very least 2.1k, and even then I'm sure I'll still hold onto a good chunk of it.
