Bitcoin is a metaphorical teen and most others are babies. A couple of years of age make a lot of difference at this stage, but once everyone is an adult it'll mean a lot less, and there might be a flippening for a fundamentally more sound option. There is incentive for it to happen: btc is already outdated, there are better options to PoW, many coins are superior in scaling, transaction times and maximum transactions per second, privacy and whatnot, but it'll take time for all of them to lose shitcoin status and be on the same ballpark as btc.

Short of global EMPs that destroys every computer on earth, not going to happen. There are tens of thousands of nodes with full copies of the blockchain all over the world, including my own. A single node can ressurrect every other node once they come back online. As many are in more remote regions or emp data centers, the blockchain isn't getting destroyed unless nodes are systematically hunted.

Bitcoin will stop working a bit after the world stops working. And if that happens the only thing you can rely on will be guns and ammo, not gold and silver.

What would happen if all the bitcoins were owned by someone? I Recall reading there are actually only a limited number. Would it result in high value, then a steep downward slope of decreasing value? Think of this in terms of real currency. Less stores would want to support a coin that not everyone has. They'd raise the items' value in bitcoins, making them more expensive.

More a store of value/digital gold and a currency for bigger transactions (especially international)
I don't see the world where you can buy everything (I mean it's technically doable transfering immidiately to fiat for the receiver) in btc. Also if it's gonna be as deflationary as we all expect how would people be getting paid in btc in their jobs with the purchasing power of btc fluctuating so much? imagine you get your paycheck and by the time you get home it dipes 20%? would the meplyer have to buy btc before issuing every paychecks? would the emploee have to transfer every paycheck from fiat to btc himself?
Maybe I'm too much of a brainlet to grasp it all but as of right now for me it seem like btc will be a store of value gaining quickly and when all the btc are finally mined year 21xx ? then they can be used as a currency because it will stay more less stable

just like the gold rush, gold was gaining hard and now it's more like safe store of value than an investment

There are better alternatives. PoS over PoW is the future, a future bitcoin will porbably never adopt. Fuck miners, the only way it scales is towards centralization as ASICs are already ubiquitous the only way tobmine profitably will be off government subsidized electricity with bulk bought hardware.

They should have a little bounce after the BTC flows back into them after the fork (not sure how much will be pulled out into fiat), and then slowly as more boomer money flows into the market. Provided they are useful and not *actual* shitcoins.

can you imagine all those salty normies? can you imagine the /biz/ neets millionaire meetup with our lambos? I know it sounds ridiculous but look at the average normie, that fucker doesn't have ta patience to read one page of pure text let alone doing research for days, how do you expect him to get into btc by himself? he will eventually though when tv shills it to him every morning, but he will only be able to buy like 0.01 btc (like buying a tiny bit of gold today) from some weak hands because most normies are fucking idiots, they don't have any savings to invest in btc even if they wanted, they are too busy chasing bitchy stacies etc. and spending all their slave salaries on stupid things.
But when they finally fomo for our scraps we will then have them on our side shilling the shit out of btc, but we will all be already set

Like I said earlier I know it all sounds crazy but that's exactly how it would sound if you had told someone a few yeas ago what will be the btc price on oct 2017.
And the fact that it's all so unbelievable makes me actually think it's gonna happen, because if it was so obvious it would be too true to be good.

We may actually be the "early adopters" when you look at ourselves from the outside world's perspective. And it's not like got something for free, we either gambled (something normies are scared of) or done extensive research costing us a lot of time (something normis don't have the brains/attention for)

There are three things I really dislike about the crypto community: libertarians, /pol/tards and beta faggots with stupid resentment towards "normies". In this order, from the least bad to the worst.

This is a very valid point, with a couple of adjustments:
2014 GWP is c $78 trillion

Assuming a CAGR of around 4%, that jumps to just below $100 trillion for 2020, so it's still feasible, but extremely unlikely.

Beyond that 2020 projection, it's pretty bullshit.

I agree the whole thing is a massive bubble, in real terms.

I used to be one of you. The whole idea of the abolition of government is pretty stupid and idealistic, a society without government will 1) devolve into chaos just like Hobbes imagined it, or like it is happenning in areas like Somalia and Afghanistan 2) inevitably states will appear again, either through violence (like it happens with warlords in the aforementioned anarchist utopias) or economic dependency, or through a social contract. Of course, now that we have blockchain, we can at least have currency without government, and that's great. If smart contracts become a thing we will have that too, but we can't have everything decentralised, because that's just not how the world works. At least with our current understanding, maybe in the future we will be able to do aomething about it, I don't know.
