Buy low sell high, but never buy shitcoins nonetheless.
Only invest in good tech that has real world use cases and preferably an already released functional product to properly assess the worth of the project.

What does Confucius say about a diverse portfolio? I'm a brainlet who still doesn't get why you shouldn't put the majority of your capital on big coins you know will make money. Is it just better to focus on short-term profits? Do you recover easier if you have a lot of money in a lot of places?

Aiming for short terms profit is ok if trading is your day to day job. Otherwise, if you still want to have a life to enjoy, you must aim for mid term and long term gains.
Long term gains being for the project you really trust to be healthy/potent enough to grow for the coming years, and mid terms for those you like but aren't still not fully sure.

Regarding diversification, it is usually good to spread risks but you must not spread it too much because any investments you do must be well thought and properly followed.
Usually max 5. If you want to be more confident, aim for 3 but spends more time researching for the best of the best.
Although nothing prevents you to go all in with a single cryptocurrency. It is more risky but if you are really knowledgeable and confident in a particular project, you can take such risk and prove it to be a good choice.

Important factors:
>Good tech with real world use cases
>released product to test yourself
>strong roadmap
>no shady team
>price of entry (buy the dips and low market cap projects for max ROIs potential)

As the sake of example, Bitay fits such description.
