The moving averages are a lot more accurate on the 1 day candles. I usually don't put as much stock in them when I'm down in the 1 hr or smaller candles (which you basically have to do for things like ETP, where it hasn't been on the exchange long enough for the daily to tell you much). They still work as an indicator though, and if they're pointing to the same conclusion that your other indicators are, it should make you a little more confident.

Other than that, I would just say to make sure you have a plan whenever you're making trades. It's pretty risky to go into an order just because the coin is higher or lower than usual. Who's to say it won't go even lower? You need to know something about the coin, and have some reason to believe that you can make some profit on it. And make sure you have an escape plan, especially if you aren't too confident in where the coin is going. If a coin you aren't sure about swings up, take some profit out. Sell 25%, or half. Hell, sell it all, if it's a real piece of shit. Don't FOMO yourself into staying in while there's profit staring you in the face. If you go all-in and become a bag-holder, you might lose everything. If you take some profit out early, you're making money. Sure, you might miss the occasional moon, but you're still making huge gains, and you're avoiding those suicide-inducing lows.

Oh, and don't listen to emotional posts on /biz/. Hard facts are fine (DYOR), but ignore the REEEEEE shit. In fact, your probably better off doing the opposite of whatever their sentiment is. "The time to buy is when there's blood in the streets."

I still use the smaller candles, I just focus more on the 1hr/30min/15min because when I get down to the 5min or 1min, it gets way to volatile for me to act on the trends. You can still find useful information there, but personally, it tends to just cloud my judgement. Though it also depends on how often you're trading. If you're trying to play those small-time swings, I guess it would be really useful. I wouldn't do that though.

And yeah, if I'm selling to try to buy in at a lower price and accumulate, I'm usually only selling 25 or 50%. It really just depends on how much risk you want to take.

Also, good thinking on taking profits before the conference. Conferences can really go either way, and locking in some profits before something volatile like that is just plain good trading.
