rule #1 Dont panic buy shitcoins because they might rise, they never do

rule#2.1 Buying shit coins for profit does work sometimes, but GTFO early and be happy with the profit you made. 24hr graph at an angle upward greater than 50 degrees. SELL

Do not listen to Poloniex's trollbox, it's full of shills shilling their shitty coins so they can dump their bags of cow manure on you.

Coins with guaranteed returns in the close future? BTC, XMR & VRC.

BTC will dip a little bit because of the shitty SR auction, buy when it goes below 600$ (if it ever will which I doubt) no investor in his sound mind and body will buy in $ 30k BTC and dump right after.

XMR has BTC blue whales swimming in it (I'm talking >5000 BTC 2009 miners) It's the main coin in the Cryptonight family line, for 5 year olds that means it's the Bitcoin of the Cryptonight algorythm.

VRC? Let's just say you can use VRC to buy on stores that accept BTC COMPLETELY ANONYMOUS. And it's already working. Don't believe me? Just search for #VeriBit on twitter.

That's all for now. I'll be lurking and dropping more tips if I feel like it.

If so, it's old news. Caused quite a scare; the effects of which are still affecting the BTC price. However, the one time GHash actually managed to briefly cross the 50% border caused them to get DDoS'd back into the stone age. IIRC after the attacks slowed they began mining at some hilariously hindered status of like ~30%, down from 50.XX%

While a collective effort to thwart the network is a theoretical possibility, at this stage in the game BTC is simply too well-understood and widely spread for anyone to get away with an attack due to the vigilante justice that comes about from every angle.

I still fail to see how much of what it states is valid. Not to mention the incredibly obvious bias that the author holds... But, regardless, some of the statements made are just flat-out untrue:

>Bitcoin was different because it did not require full faith and trust in any single entity.
It still doesn't.

>The moment there is a 51% miner, the users need to fully trust that miners' intentions.
But they need not trust the entity at all; Case in point, the GHash DDoS volley. Even if the 51%er were Satoshi himself, the community is at a level of which it would be detected immediately and curbed.

I do understand the criticism of BTC, and I know that asking the hard questions and bringing up uncomfortable topics is absolutely necessary. I applaud those who do so because addressing said questions is how progress and improvements are made - arguably the only way such things are made in some cases. However when criticism lacks truth and is marred by a bias, it not only misses the mark but also discredits anyone else who wants to push an issue without logical fallacies or fictitious assertions.

If I'm missing something more important that I should've gathered from that article, by all means tell me what it is so I can go re-analyze it. I'm not against people making good points, regardless of the topic - but I must say I will look further into them for validity's sake.

Been out of the cryptogame the last few months. Is BTC dying? Last I checked it was already falling to pre-breakout status of ~400 USD.

I can, considering it was the end of the world around January and it didn't actually kill Bitcoin you have to ask yourself, just what CAN kill bitcoin?

It survived the humongous china dump, it survived the crash of mt gox, it has defended itself against the 51% scare (though this still is not fully resolved).

Right now a huge amount of it is going to be sold by the United States government (the seized coins) and amongst the bidders you have some wallstreet and silicon valley institutions.

Yup. I've talked to more than one "smart, informed" person about bitcoin in the past few months and they all thought that Mt. Gox crashing was the end of bitcoin. Like, they thought that Mt. Gox ran bitcoin and bitcoin ceased to exist entirely after it collapsed.

The average person, if they even know the word bitcoin, has no idea what it is.

So there is room for many more winds in the media as it's inevitability continues to progress

Because even at this current price, it's still relatively early in it's life.

It's kind of a pain in the ass to actually buy one coin, and you have to know a few things. In my opinion, more user friendly ways of getting btc and using them are inevitable.

Kinda like how just going online and having an email was a pain in the ass in the early 90s and slowly it started getting friendlier and friendlier.

Honestly don't know why people buy coins without first taking the time to actually read their bitcointalk threads. Half of the comments on their announcement thread were blasting the coin as crap.

If most altcoins are shitcoins then you have to find the least shittiest to avoid unnecesary risk. You do that by actually taking the time to research each one. Decent amount of negative press in a relatively short window of time.

It was nipping at 1BTC=$700 just a couple of weeks ago, which is the highest it's really ever been since the Gawks Mountain fiasco.

And it's not a fad in any way; it's just valued via speculation. The next time a window of similar proportions is packed full of great news, expect it to cross well over $700. Many top economists are even going on record saying they wouldn't be surprised if 1BTC=$1,000-$5,000 by the end of 2015, with a select few even going so far as to speculate 1BTC=$100,000 by 2020.

Of course, it's all speculation. And BTC may not necessarily be the one coin to rule them all. However "bitcoin" has essentially also made its way into modern nomenclature to signify all crypocurrency technology in general. So the"biggest bitcoin" could be literally any other coin at some point in time. As of now, though, every alt is compared to Bitcoin and valued by it (even LTC) and it's the IF and not the WHEN Bitcoin is usurped that holds the throne of the king of all questions right now.

>But, let's be honest here - deep down we all know PND will become the standard global currency by 2020.

I wouldn't worry about it at all, man. Hell, even if you bought it at $1,300 one minute before Gokz Palooza, you still shouldn't worry about it. It may take a year from today, but at some point in time the highest-of-the-highest peak for BTC will look laughably cheap. BTC is a very long-term investment and people won't be saying "I bought in at a thousand dollars" for oohs and ahhs, they'll just have to say "I bought in during the 2010's".

I bought 2BTC @ $445 and truth be told I'm actually sort of hoping it it takes a brief dive to $300-$350 just so I can buy 10 or 20 more for a hilariously low rate.

Depends.

A lot of people are calling the FUD pure lies from a jelly few who sold very early.

I put a low buy order for 10% of the amount I held previously just in case it is just BS. It doesn't seem to be pulling a SilkCoin-esque nosedive, so that alone seems like a good sign.

0.4BTC? That's not so bad, about $250 USD at the moment I guess. I thought it would be more.

To be completely honest, unless you somehow manage to install a version of truecrypt that you had before, and that will work with your computer, there's not a heck of a lot that you can do. It'd just about be worth more to cut your losses and buy up some more bitcoin and then hold it.

I have about 5BTC spread across a couple of exchanges and on my client at home. Probably the best thing you could do loss prevention wise is to spread it across a number of platforms and mediums so if you lose one, it's no big hit to your portfolio.

Lastly, make sure you do come back, even if it's only buying Bitcoin and then holding out. Theoretically from this point onwards, it can only gain value over the long term.

Yes. I dropped the ball on the SUPER influx for sure. I will not even think about denying that.

However, I advised people to sell (and sold all of my own SUPER at the same time) when it was being blackballed all over twitter and had just then gone from ~5k to ~7.8k. I figured one of two things was going to happen: Either the FUD would've caused a plummet a-la Silkcoin style and we'd all be left deep in the red, or the FUD would be refuted and SUPER would continue in an upward trend. The fact that the vast majority of us here had bought in to SUPER at the ~5k range, and it was stting close to 8k at the time of the FUD spouting, I personally made the choice to accept a +20%-25% while that acceptable invitation was still valid rather than let it ride to see if goes even higher.

Although hindsight is always 20/20, those who know me will understand that any profit is good profit. Had SUPER dropped even 5% and stagnated, it'd still be less profit than selling at the sign of a crash. I could have simply sold mine and not said a word, and SUPER could then have crashed, for instance. But I spoke out about what I was personally doing in an attempt to maximize the profits for all of my /biz/bros as well. Granted, SUPER did not do what I had expected - but I'd have felt awful had it done what I expected and I had kept quiet about it.

These things happen. I hope that whoever did what I did understands and realized that they still made a very decent return.

Fuckin' love you guys, ya know :/

Also do you have IRC, twitter, etc. where you give advice or is it all just posts on /biz/?
