What's the story with POT?

I see a lot of people posting about how they're holding it (insert joke here) but next to zero discussion about it otherwise. Some people holding for a very long time now too. Was this a long-term hold that kicked off awhile ago and has yet to see its peak/moves up very slowly?

I'd research myself but I just made an omelet and I'm about to watch the latest episode of Black Science Man Presents: Cosmos 2014 so fuck that.

for one thing the supply and mining schedule is pretty favorable technically (basically it has a low market cap and about ~4.5 btc now at this price of new supply mined daily)

also, legal cannabis industry is just beginning to get started and there are a surprisingly high amount of retailers taking this coin already as well as an actually built ATM to be deployed at a dispensary in colorado (rock river dispensary) although that was supposed to happen in late may and has been delayed last time I checked to address some kind of concern (perhaps recent buying pressure is indicative that this concern has been fixed and the ATM will go live at a colorado dispensary?)

It's not without risk to hold but basically its just shockingly low value compared to where it could be if an actual dispensary had an ATM for it (with the idea more would and it would become used in the industry) it also has the technical setup to get pumped but the relative lack of hype in general is a good sign at the moment I think

safer to have on hand. easier to account for than cash. motivation to hold on their part and incentivize customers to use it so that their holding in the network increases in value.

It doesn't have to be (and wont be) a replacement for cash in the short term. MMJ in colorado is a 1+billion dollar a year industry and its growing rapidly. if a small percentage of sales were in potcoin that would do a lot to the price of the coin as far as adding consistent demand

if a few big enough MMJ businesses adopt potcoin and realize that they could spur usage and hold and make money down the line, they would be smart to offer a discount for using potcoin.... because you're right it's not easier to use than cash in a physical transaction. but it's better for the merchant in some ways so they should and probably will offer discounts for using it

also dev is an accomplished entrepreneur and raised 3mill recently for another app. and he seems very dedicated to making potcoin get traction and adoption

also the river rock dispensary is involved in colorado MMJ lobbying and policymaking

just seems to me like it already has more of a credible base and adoption than most altcoins

stupid question; what is a buywall/ sell wall and how do you spot it? what impact does it have on price?

>> No.379153

>>379128

A "wall" is a bid composed of a hefty amount of total BTC that sets the proverbial bar of where a coin can be bought/sold.

For example, let's say Coin "X" has a highest bidder of 200 satoshi. The lowest sell order is 500 satoshi. Someone who is intersted in making sure Coin "X" never drops below 350 or so puts in a buy order of 400 satoshi - but orders so many at 400 that he orders 10.5BTC-worth. That means that all of the people looking to get rid of their coins for whatever price can't be the next people to get rid of them unless the put in an order higher than 400 satoshi. This can do a large number of things to a coin's market, including but not limited to:
>Manipulating the overall value via illusion
>Forcing people to buy/sell at a price they aren't yet willing to
>Allowing someone who bought in extremely low to sell their coins for way way way more than their worth if they set up a massive sell wall and a slightly less massive buy wall very close to it, thus making people think they are buying at a bargain when in fact they are drastically over-paying.

It's not a stupid question, anon. It's actually pretty important to ask.

>> No.379194

>>379153

How can you spot them though?

Maybe I'm just not getting it.

>> No.379203

>>379194
>How can you spot them though?

On Bittrex, look at the order list.

It will have a column that states how large the order is next to the amount their asking. Pic related.

The "Total" in BTC means how much in BTC will need to applied to that order in order for it to be filled. Notice how they're all in the same general ballpark area? Now if someone threw one in for 5.0 BTC, that means the order would need 5 bitcoins-worth of altcoin given to it in order for the next person down the line to be the top order.

If someone is selling a coin for 100 satoshi with a 5 bitcoin wall, that means that until 5 bitcoins-worth of the altcoin are sold at 100 satoshi, no one asking for a price over 100 satoshi will be able to sell their coins, since there are so many on the books for less money at that given time.

This, I learned the hard way. Became a bagholder of lots of shitcoins hoping them to pump again one day. I realized that their pumps were over and that I got too greedy. I cashed them out. Now I'm recovering from my loses.

If you don't sell you don't win. Also short sell and short buy in the small pumps and dumps a shitcoin have during his pump, you will win a lot more and short selling is far less riskier. I you fucked up don't panic, wait for it to bounce again (if the volume is high and is in a normal range of values of course, over a safe and strong buy wall).

Look ant the buy sell logs on Bittrex and learn the basics of Technical analysis to predict when it will go up. Never panic buy on top, shit can only be down after that. Also remember that all shitcoins pumps are bubbles and behave like pic realted.

It isn't even at 4k yet. I bought 1000 at 1.5k and sold at ~3.9k and just bought in another 1000 at 3.2k because IMO it will easily surpass 10k in the next 72 hours or so.

If it crashes as soon as the PoW ends it will only be temporary and due to the miners saying "fuck it" and dumping their motherload - and then the buying will begin at what's most likely half of its current price en masse from all those looking to stake it.

If it does dip at all (which it wont necessarily do) I'm secretly hoping it drops below 2k just so I can repeat my initial gains 4 or 5 fold.

it only has 13.5 million supply too and anuual halving. also dev seems very active and they recently launched a web-based shopping cart payment processing app branded for the coin that is in theory plug and play in beta right now for merchants to accept the coin. shit goddamn son... and you can get a few thousand of them for almost nothing right now

and if I didn't have a laptop I'd be mining it because the difficulty is like 1 or something right now and it's scrypt

Thoughts on what will happen to XMR when it gets on mintpal?

The recent coins that have been added to mintpal through voting all dropped like flies, but they didn't have the same pre-mintpal volume that XMR has

Seriously

Honorcoin will boom TODAY. The relaunch is july 4th and everyone who buys now and places their coins on Poloniex will have them doubled. Price is already 10% of the normal value and you're basically getting 2 for 1 if you buy now. Add the price rising on the relaunch and you're golden.

The price seems as low as it can get and there are a lot of features that set it apart. See this post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=645946.msg7393494#msg7393494

New features like this often make a coin worth more. It's worth a small investment in the least.

I've roughly broke even with my play Internet money (I used to think of it as "magic Internet money" but now that's an actual coin), so since I'm going on a brief underway tomorrow I'm just putting it all on the coin with the abbreviation that most closely matches my reaction to altcoin trading. Devs are rolling out a new application this Friday so I figure I'll at least get some exciting movement in either direction by the time I get back, depending on how that goes, making it effectively "putting it all on black." (Not to be confused with BlackCoin)

I'll see how this has worked out in 5 days.

Fun fact: If you'd gotten into LOL yesterday, you'd have doubled your money today. I'd say something about missing the train, but that's effectively saying, "If only I'd picked the winning lottery numbers instead of these losing ones, I'd be rich," isn't it?

I don't understand what the holdings value has to do with what you're saying.

Speaking of, just how much money are all of the rest of your playing with here? I see some people using $15 worth of BTC and such, but I wouldn't put it past some people to day-trade cryptocurrency with serious amounts of money.

The difference is that trading with higher amounts of money has actual impact on whichever market you're trading on.
Invest 0.2 BTC in a coin, nobody cares.
Invest 200 BTC in the same coin, the entire market changes, and chances are you won't be able to sell it again. Not while making profit anyway.

>should I keep holding this VRC or put it all in VOOT or CLOAK

VRC probably still has a little bit of climbing to do, so I wouldn't ditch it entirely.

However, if you currently own 0 CLOAK, and have a good amount of VRC, I would (in your position) sell off 50% of the VRC you have an put it all into CLOAK. VOOT seems really hit-or-miss IMO and I personally wouldn't invest in it at all - that said though, it could definitely go up; I just feel like the risk-to-reward ratio is a bit too high.

If you own only a few VRC and no CLOAK whatsoever, then yes: Sell the VRC for CLOAK because while VRC will more than likely go up a bit more, CLOAK is essentially the #1 sure-thing as of right now. It's pretty much a given that it'll be at double or triple its current price in the upcoming weeks.

>>381061
I agree 100% about CLOAK and SUPER but I fail to see the reasoning behind GLYPH going skyward. Obviously I could just be missing the relative info, though. Care to elaborate?

>> No.381064

just sold Cloak at 320k sats. I figure the shits gonna dip again considering you insiderfags claim that a pump is coming "soon", which gives ample time to wait for a dip.

Silly goose, you buy that back right now.

>> No.381070

>>381064

IMO It's going to hit ~39k before the next major dip. A few poor saps who will in all actuality be making a fine decision will be buy in at ~40k sat range and then panic sell once it dips very momentarily into the 38-39k range, thus setting off a panic selling wave. They should just buy in at 40k and hold because it's obviously going to be way higher eventually, but panics gonna panic.

I bought in at 19k, 21k, and 29k (At 29k almost a month ago when it first debuted) and I havent sold a single coin yet. I have no plans to until it's well over the 70k-75k mark - which it will easily be in yet another month or two.

But I agree that a somewhat-decent dip will happen relatively soon and I'll be buying even more along with you - but you can quote me here and now when I say it's not gonna happen until 40k is within arms length.

>> No.381095

Head up to errybody: SUPER is halving the reward blocks today, plus it seems to be fully recovered from the FUD of the other day.

In other words if you haven't bought it yet, you might want to jump in now so you don't spend this time tomorrow wishing you had.
