I'm just wondering why people are buying and holding BTC and ETH. Unless you have hundreds of thousands of dollars, you won't be able to buy very much of either at these prices.

In comparison, you can buy a lot more of the altcoins, and there are a few that represent actual projects or products from professional organizations with a working business model. So there is the potential for a much higher return on your investment than you would get from buying like 5 bitcoins or however much you can afford.
