Here's the quick rundown.

A sell wall is when someone (or a group of conspiring people) with a large amount of a coin put up a massive amount for sale at a certain price.

Because of this, people can not sell at a higher price until the massive amounts being sold at the sell wall price have been sold off.

Here is where it gets interesting. Don't think of the market as money, think of the market as emotion. People see the price dropping and this massive sell wall and get scared so they want to sell to prevent any further losses. If they try to sell at the same price as the sell wall they'll never end up being able to sell what they have; the massive amount that is in the wall would take priority over their sale. Because of this, the average trader will sell at even just 1 satoshi lower than the sell wall. Because of this, the people who have put the sell wall up are able to buy up all of the sales that the scared traders are putting up below their forced pricepoint, meanwhile the coins in their sell wall are only being sold in small increments due to people undercutting them out of fear.
The whale barely sells any of the coins they put up at a cheap price and buys up all the coins being sold by the panic sellers at a price slightly lower. They remove the wall, the price raises again, they profit.
