Is investing 15 grand in mutual funds a bad idea? Plan on having them in there for 3-5 years potentially more. My family broker was gonna do it for me. Either that or I can invest in individual stocks but I'm not that much of a gambling man to want to lose all my money. If I was trusted to do it alone I'd have no money left

>paying huge fees for trading
>paying huge fees for "maintenance"
>underperforming the market 50% of the time
>similar returns to giving blowjobs $50 a time

yeah sure, you're gonna have some sweet 4% returns in the next 5 years.

Isn't that better than 15 grand sitting in a checking account accruing a 0.003% interest?

Mutual funds suck. Buy any of the S&P 500 index funds.

It's not a bad idea but understand the risk beyond the conventional things.

If the maket crashes soon (and they just announced rate hike, the end of ((((QE)))) and ny indictors tht it will, just depends on your defiiton of "soon"

If it crashes expertrs are saying this could be a >50% crash we're headed for that means your 15k turns into 7k or less.

Yes but you're setting the bar low. And if ou get hit by the crash, then it's not better anymore.

Index funds are better than paying a manager to actively manage the fund and lag the benchmark

ETFs are even cheaper than index funds and they do the same thing

True but the difference is tiny. I know with Schwab you can invest any arbitrary amount into their S&P 500 mutual fund without any fees. That's a lot better than paying commission every trade if you're only putting in a few hundred dollars a months.

My broker told me there is no indicator of a crash anytime soon
