A really important part of this story is missing. Who is making the servers and the mining machines that this individual is using? In other words, it's not just an investment in this individual's mining farm, but there is also a significant investment in perhaps Bitmain, which is almost an exclusive provider of mining machines in China. This company was recently given US$50 million in investment funds from Sequoia Capital. Why would a company that has done some of the biggest deals in China in recent years put money on the table for a company that would in the end be shut down by the government. I don't think the story is about "will China ban bitcoin and mining?" The story is, how will the Chinese government support bitcoin in a standardized way, and benefit? That's the news story. The ban is just a false flag. It's the market panicking, but it's not the market really doing what it's doing

The Chinese government know they can't defeat bitcoin. They also know that they can't stop a single Chinese citizen from investing either in bitcoin itself or in ICOs. Even if the great firewall of China was 100% effective, every Chinese family has at least one family member living abroad who could and would facilitate investment through other means.

The only play that the Chinese government has its to introduce some new regulations and then let their people have at it. What form this will take we can only speculate on but this ban is only going to be short term.

I think they're going to try. They have been stockpiling gold so they can back their currency so they can replace the dollar. Now after all that work Bitcoin comes along take a shit on all of their plans.
