Strange / Stupid Reasons Why You Didn't Get Hired:

>Be freakishly good at what I do
>Apply for job
>Get a phone call next day
>Meet up with recruiter
>Openly states that I'm talented
>Get a call 10 minutes after the meeting
>Aced first impressions
>Actual Interview
>Interviewer states I'm insanely good
>He's impressed
>"Alright so I got it."
>Next day
>Phone call
>I don't got it
>Recruiter sounds just as bewilder as I am
>We both assume it's an incompatibility with the work culture
>The Interviewer had nothing but good things to say about me
>Still didn't get hired
>Mentions "She"
>Hires someone substantially less skilled than I am
>This man must have hired this person thinking he could get laid
>Be fairly annoyed but shrug it off for the most part

So /biz/, what's your story?

I had a really weird situation like that, kinda...

I sent a resume that pretty much perfectly matched what they wanted. I mean, it was almost too perfect. It was like they used my exact resume to create the job description. And it was some pretty unusual stuff, too. It just happened to be exactly what I did at my previous job.

Anyway, they gave me a phone interview. It went on for HOURS and they grilled me on the most ridiculous stuff. Seriously, the questions were like "Which bits in an IEEE floating-point number are used for the exponent?" And I fucking kid you not, I knew the answers EXACTLY, just because I happen to deal with exactly that kind of thing on a daily basis. I've written entire libraries for doing IEEE floating-point shit.

So I completely crush this interview, to the point where the guy on the phone is basically saying "Wow, why do you know this stuff so well?"

A week later, I get an e-mail that says they decided not to hire me. No explanation. My best guess is that they thought I was bullshitting them and just Googling the answers or something.

Fuck them. Funny thing is, the job posting is still up and they still haven't found anyone. It's been over two years.

I applied for a trainee position recently. I have been working for about 5 years, but looking to change into something slightly different, but in reality quite similar (e.g different title, different industry, but day to day, you actually do the exact same thing). Figured I would be the only older guy there, and everyone else would be graduates.

Of the 200 applicants, only 6 made it to the interview, and each one of them was in my situation. A trainee position, and there was absolutely nobody just graduated or graduating. I really feel sorry for kids dese daiz. Boomers on the other hand can go fuck themselves. I've only met maybe 3 in my career who were actually competent enough to justify the salaries they got, for everyone else it was just a case of "well I have 10 years of experience of this", even if you're just stupid and lazy.

Yeah, don't let shit like that get you down. After I was rejected from a job that I thought I was suited for, I spoke to my neighbour who was a pretty high up manager at a medium-sized company and he told me shit like this happens all the time. In many cases, they've already chosen someone internal for the position, but they have to, as per company policy, advertise and interview external applicants for the position, which just wastes everyone's fucking time. And obviously the company won't tell you this when they reject you.

>Funny thing is, the job posting is still up and they still haven't found anyone. It's been over two years.

Just like people are supposed to send thank you emails after an interview, they're expected to notify you one way or another. It literally takes them 10 seconds a person, send the same formulaic email to everyone, just switch out the name. If they have their shit together, it's as simple as checking some boxes and running a bot to autogenerate that name change and send out individual emails. That's the fucking common courtesy.

Generally speaking, the software development industry is an insult to any person with a reasonably high IQ. The companies typically create a laundry list of requirements because they're either too stupid to properly spec-out what the necessities for a position are or they're looking to hire an H1-B worker and have to find a way to disqualify an American.

The number of things I actually know and am highly skilled at is probably at around 50+ and I've had companies I've submitted resumes to saying that I lacked a skillset they were looking for.

I make a pretty large salary but it's incredible what these companies *ask* for; I'm not sure what they expect in reality. Quite honestly, I can't imagine any person who's adept at as many things as some job listings require being willing to abase himself to even talking to such crappy companies.

I tried getting a lawyer to help but it turns out the guy was the husband of the HR chick who refused to hire me. I have a new job at a call center but I only make $9/hr so I have to work at least 10 hours of overtime a week and have very little time to contact a different lawyer. Not sure what else I can do at this point.

>I traveling this week but would like to set up a Skype call soon, maybe by the end of the week or early next week.

That was two weeks ago...

I have another tale:

>get called in for an interview
>this one is also pretty far away
>car not in the greatest of shape
>take the long nearly hour drive, passing through two toll booths to get there
>arrive with 10 minutes to spare
>get interviewed and asked some questions
>answer them pretty well
>okay, we'll call you if we find something
>realize that I spent more time commuting from my house and back than I did in the interview
>mfw

I was told a few years ago by 3 companies that I if I joined them they thought I'd leave in 3-6 months for a better job.

Now I run a business I see where they're coming from. Some jobs are just boring as fuck and you need the right personality to stay.

Nice, I'm a friendless NEET shut-in because of something similar. I really want to fall into a scheduled work life but am too indecisive to start anything myself. I've always been able to spend a few months on something and live off the money for a year or so. When I'm around people I think I just try too hard and people can't really relate. But I come off as weird if I don't try. I've been this way since first grade. My only friend was a girl with severe behavioral issues who was sent to a foreign boarding school by her rich parents. She would borrow my pencils and return them looking like pic related.

>tfw trying to start to network and meet more people
>hope that I'll get a decent job despite my lack of high end education
>befriended all my co-workers and bosses at my minimum wage job, hope it'll get me somewhere
>realize I'll be that douchebag that get hired over someone with actual qualifications

I didn't want to do this. If everything was merit based, I wouldn't resort to this, but I need these jobs.

I swear, Networking or starting your own business is the only way to get a decent job.

I regret the stupid shit when I was younger
>apply for random toys r us job online
>still fresh in highschool
>decide to just wing it with using the online application form instead of sending them my resume
>use my junk email for account registration
I still wonder whether they noticed the junk email. For contact purposes I did send them my business email though.

>Father tells me his friend (and my god father) owns an office in France
>One phonecall, yeah your godson needs an internship
>Alrighty, send him over we'll pay for the flight

Well fuck me, this ain't bad. Saw the grand prix in Monaco last week, and I'm a student with loans up to my neck. My family is poor from bad luck and a disability, but damn if they don't have good contacts from when they had the life.
