a quick format doesnt destroy the data, just the files. if its a wallet from 2010 i dont beliebe they had encryption let for wallets, so you should be able to use any recovery software to take a complete data dump of the whole drive and then scan through it all for the wallet file.

worst comes to worst you can just scan through every 32 byte window or however large bitcoin keys are, and check each one for a bitcoin balance.

whatever you do through dont plug the drive into anything until youre ready to make the dump of its contents, even better put it in read only mode if you can. anything written to it has a high chance of overwriting your keys.

Thanks. I had to spend a couple of days in a hospital when I realized I have a million dollar wallet. Nobody understands this shit. They think you can call Mr. Ether and request a new password and your good. My doctor said I should visualize the wallet as a dream or a fantasy and that it doesn't really exist. I prefer to think I'm just fucked from birth and that God hates me.

>> No.3421237

>>3421196
you dont have to, make sure your linux doesnt automatically mount things, then plug it in and mount it read only

then use dd or some other tool to make a dump of the entire drive, and search github for wallet recovery scripts, just make sure you keep your linux laptop offline the entire time so you dont accidently download some malware script that sends your keys off to russia

Found you problem.
Install Gentoo.

What I would consider doing is on my Gentoo box use dd to make an image of the drive then loopback mount that image and not mess with the original drive.

>>3420679
Also, before you fuck things up further, get a block-level image of that drive with something like GNU ddrescue and do your recovery stuff on that image. Have another backup of that image, too.

If recuva doesn't give you results, you can try ufs explorer, too. It has free trial to boot so you can see if there's any hope before plunking down cash. I can attest from a personal experiment it does work like charm on ext4fs.

Listen to these anons they know what's up, especially the 2nd making a copy of the image.

I've never used this before but next I would research this and after studying it I would experiment on a copy of the image and if it damages the copy of the image that's fine it's just a copy of the image of the original drive.

>> No.3421745

OP, most important thing is now for you to calm down. Then, make a full disk image of that drive with dd (or ddrescue) or something to that effect. If you use dd or ddrescue, FFS MAKE SURE YOU SET IF AND OF PARAMETERS CORRECTLY. Then calm down some more and make sure you have the backup of your recovery image on a safe place and start looking at the copy backup with testdisk, recuva, ufs explorer rtc....
